Shuttle C with recoverable engines?31 Dec 2007 00:05 GMT11
Has anyone considered a version of the shuttle C but where
the SMEs, pumps, and avionics, etc. are placed behind a
"small" heat shield and recovered from orbit?
The SRBs would be recovered as usual.  The drop tank would be

Communications from the moon?27 Dec 2007 04:37 GMT15
Given the poor stability of lunar orbits  due to the weird gravity
fluctuations it has, it seems to me that if  we want to communicate with the
far side, the only option would be very high towers which could see a long
way on the far side, while appearing above the horizon from ...

michael lalonde18 Dec 2007 07:24 GMT4
It all started when our adventurer, michael lalonde, woke up in a
swamp. It was the ninth time it had happened. Feeling exceedingly
frustrated, michael lalonde grabbed a oven mitt, thinking it would
make him feel better (but as usual, it did not). All of a sudden, he
How an orbiter came back at the Cape from a TAL?17 Dec 2007 17:57 GMT31
Hi, i've googled a bit, but i found generic answers about this kind of
scenario.
I know that mate 747, during ferry flights has climb limitation for various
reasons and isn't equipped for in-flight refueling.
Carburetor, Carburettor, Carburetter, Tomato Can?17 Dec 2007 17:45 GMT3
Would you believe someone if they tell you that the first Harley
Davidson produced in 1903 used a tomato can for its carburetor?
You may find this story hard to believe but although undocumented,
this tomato can carburetor urban legend has been circulating for
ECO sensor operation theory17 Dec 2007 07:54 GMT5
Hi, I searched around without success for a description of how the ECO
sensor works. Does it detect a change in capacitance in the platinum
wire grid when immersed in cryogenic fuel?
Thanks,

eco sensors.15 Dec 2007 05:15 GMT20
I have some questions here.
Are they all in the same place, or spaced around the tank?
How do they differ to the oxygen ones?
Following out of that, what are they using to detect the level.
ECO sensor flakey failures12 Dec 2007 18:20 GMT8
Finally found some info on the ECO sensors.  Bottom line is that it is an
interface problem due to an inherent sensitivity to impendance mismatch,
stray capacitance, signal condtioning problems, etc, IMO.
NASA is trying to take a tank out of inventory, hook it to the vehicle, and
