| Why install the payload at the pad? | 26 Feb 2007 14:06 GMT | 54 |
I've wondered why the payload isn't installed in the payload bay either at the OPF or the VAB. Why is it often (always?) done at the pad? Just curious. Lee Jay

| Best Tech Heat Shield | 24 Feb 2007 19:40 GMT | 3 |
The Space Shuttle heat shield has changed over time. Basically they have replaced tiles with things requiring less maintence on the less critical (cooler) areas. However, the hottest areas remain tiles. Suppose someone were to make a shuttle-like craft today. What would

| How Many Hubble Spacewalkers Still Active Astronauts? | 24 Feb 2007 10:13 GMT | 2 |
There must be Hubble Spacewalkers that are Still Active Astronauts. It would make training easier -- and delay the final drop-dead date for a decision on a shuttle servicing mission -- if veteran spacewalkers were assigned. Thoughts on this please?

| One-man Explorer Modules | 22 Feb 2007 12:43 GMT | 11 |
Here's an idea for a possible private venture, sending up a one-man vehicle on a far-future hypothetical shuttle mission. This modified space station module would be designed to maintain life support for a mission to Mars -- except it would be a one-way mission. To qualify

| Question about 3-axis gimbal | 20 Feb 2007 15:39 GMT | 2 |
I have recently come across the idea of a 3-axis gimbal to keep an object (mounted in the innermost ring) horizontal regardless of the motion of the support (on which the outermost ring is pivoted). I understand that the 3-axis (3-rings, with the outermost ring pivoted

| Mars Rovers Question. | 16 Feb 2007 01:13 GMT | 2 |
Hello all knowing ones. I remember watching a video about the journeys of the Mars rovers, Spirit & Opportunity that included CGI effects of the methods into witch the rovers were brought to mars. They were interspersed with interviews with some

Anybody else notice there were no shots of the shuttle approaching ISS, showing the vehicle in its entirety? A contact at JSC dismissed my complaint as follows: The ISS crew are sent schematics that show the specific photos that

| Astronaut wigging out in space? | 15 Feb 2007 05:49 GMT | 52 |
Serious question: I'm sure they have some sort of a plan already put together should an astronaut totally wig out in space? Even with all the screening and training, I'm sure they have to think that
