I just saw the NASA position.  One phase of one of 3 three fuel cells is
INOP.  I say we launch.  No risk of short causing a fire.  FINISH STATION!!!

Personally, I think they are right to press for a greater understanding of
the motor problem in Fuel Cell 1. (as if anyone cares what I think!)

Any details on short in fuel cell?06 Sep 2006 22:22 GMT2
Anybody have any details on the short in the fuel cell coolant motor?  How
big was it?  How long did it last?
I heard on the radio we will delay for weeks if we have to replace the fuel
cell.  I think this is likely because shorts lead to really bad things like

ship that will go to the Moon and Mars (sic).
(their web story doesn't mention Orion going to Mars though).
Their TV story does compare this contract with the contract for the X33

Wayne Hale (Shuttle Program Director) said the last tank performed great
because its significant foam shedding was late.  Do we know enough about the
nature of the shedding to know it will not come off earlier next time and
damage the orbiter.
