Shuttle repair kit testing06 Aug 2006 14:35 GMT10
With apparently some minor damage to some tiles, will NASA keep its shuttle
repair kit confined to the test tiles in the cargo bay, or would they go for
the real deal and attempt to put the goo on the damaged tiles to give NASA a
real chance to evaluate its performance during ...
NASA culture???05 Aug 2006 17:10 GMT7
I have a theory on the problem with NASA culture that makes engineers fear
to speak up.  I think it may be a think called mobbing.  Basically, if
anyone speaks against management, management without being told in detail
gangs up on the individual and drives them out of the work ...
Lisa Nowak is cute05 Aug 2006 14:58 GMT23
There, I said it.  Lisa is a such a cutie.  She has a nice smile and her
pony tail is so cute in zero-g... :)
She is hereby awarded Miss NASA 2006.  Congrats.  Because this is what the
STS is all about: orbital beauty pageants. ;)
ET Ascent Heating from SRBs04 Aug 2006 22:40 GMT5
The SRB cams from STS-121 clearly showed how "charred" the aft dome of
the ET gets from the SRB exhaust during first stage ascent. Does anyone
know the specific details of how hot the ET gets as a result of the SRB
exhaust?  Also, a follow up question:  what effect does this heating
Space Shuttle flight sims / PC games04 Aug 2006 20:36 GMT7
Anyone know of any space shuttle flight sims or games for the PC?
Worry over SRBs04 Aug 2006 20:31 GMT31
I am most concerned with the SRBs.  If one of these fails not only is
the Shuttle
finished so is Ares 1.  I believe that one should be able to shut down
a booster

Moving heavy objects at zero-G 03 Aug 2006 00:50 GMT9
Noting that several tons, were moved and forth btw
shuttle/space-station, I got to wondering what it was
like to move 'heavy' (lotsa mass) objects around in zero-g.
I assume it's a rather different experience from moving
Obvious solution to the "foam problem"01 Aug 2006 21:42 GMT45
OK, I am completely NOT an engineer, much less a rocket scientist, but has
anyone ever thought of covering the tiles with something to protect them
during the launch?  It seems the focus is on keeping the foam from falling
off.  Makes sense to me that you'd also look to protect ...
