"Fireworks" Mr. Griffin???06 Jul 2006 04:52 GMT29
"Fireworks" Mr. Griffin???
"We establish days, weeks, months in advance the criteria
that we have to meet in order to be able to launch. If we
don't meet them, we stand down," meaning the shuttle doesn't
Minor rant - 'excitment about launch'06 Jul 2006 03:40 GMT46
NASA TV is going on and on about the 'excitement' on the part of the
crew and KSC personnel about the launch...  They don't seem to realize
that this is a product of how sick and distorted the whole process is.

Not risking astronauts lives how about ascent abort?05 Jul 2006 23:17 GMT50
So shuttle lifts off normally foam loss noted about the time a ascent
abort is called. Shuttle for whatever reason must reenter immediately.
Perhaps a low fuel sensor failure? were flying with that problem still
questionable.
Why the hell isn't this a no-brainer?05 Jul 2006 22:48 GMT19
Don't take chances. Don't launch.
And I'm no expert.
A little vague?05 Jul 2006 22:10 GMT8
Well, on the observation by a journalist that its fairly close to areas that
have been a concern,  and what will it hit etc, it seems to me that they are
not yet clear on what they called transport mechanism  but what they really
mean is where could it hit the orbiter.
Guano?05 Jul 2006 21:48 GMT2
So here we have a great experiment, Humans cannot make foam stick to the
tank, but birds can make their excrement stick to RCC?
Maybe the birds need to get the contract?

Launch Scrubbed for July 1st05 Jul 2006 20:54 GMT9
CNN just announced that the launch was scrubbed because of weather for
today (July 1, 2006). They reached the 9 minute hold and waited as
long as they could.

Fabric?05 Jul 2006 20:53 GMT4
So, what is this mysterious piece of T shaped fabric about 6 foot in length
drifting away from the orbiter a short time after tank separation, then?
Thin pieces of ice, or something more vital?
Did they ever work hout how that blanket came undone on the last trip?

Multicasting on NASA TV05 Jul 2006 07:34 GMT1
This occured to me while watching the NASA TV satellite coverage today.
There are four (4) programming channels for NASA TV now that they have
switched to digital multicasting on AMC 6.   Why do all four channels show
the same programming during missions?  Why not show downlink ...

The crew has sent down video of the mystery object that astronaut Mike
Fossum saw floating away from the shuttle while he was doing routine
filming of external-tank separation. NASA says preliminary analysis
indicates that the object is ice.
