What does the crew do about bodily function waiting for liftoff?16 Jul 2006 22:08 GMT6
I know they get suited up in those bulky space suits and strapped in,
and then they are sitting there on their backs for hours. What do they
do if nature calls? Do they have diapers or relief tubes?
GPS on Endevour?16 Jul 2006 20:04 GMT2
And I can't type today for some reason..
Anyway, I was just wondering why they are going over gradually to this form
of navigation over the next few flights. Are they really saying that just
because the armed forces is changing and de commissioning the system they
Air-to-Ground audio?16 Jul 2006 18:31 GMT1
Is NASA going to have the Air-to-Ground audio loop up and running on NASA
TV for tommorrow's entry? On the last flight, I don't recall hearing any
Air-to-Ground audio until very late in entry.

The dangers of launch aren't over until the payload bay doors are
open...  Until then the limited supply of water for the flash boilers
provides the cooling.
If the doors don't open - they must come down pretty soon.
Evrybody wishes you well, but...?14 Jul 2006 23:45 GMT21
Guys, I can remember buying books on space travel, but don't you think
the time has come to drop the Shuttle - and stop risking people's lives
in a spectacular way!
It goes without saying that everyone wishes you all well, but for how
Marching Musical Astronaut Abuse14 Jul 2006 19:34 GMT6
Did anyone catch today's (Friday / flight day 11) wake
up call? Perhaps not - was at 12:08 am CT. I believe it was
the Texas Aggie March or something like that...and they
played the whole 2 or 3 minutes of it...it was interminable.

What good is the Shuttle?14 Jul 2006 16:56 GMT55
Hello all, I have been for many years an "all things space" fanatic and I
especially enjoy the space shuttle just for the sheer technological marvel
that it is. The amount of brainpower and technology that goes into sending
one off into orbit blows me away. Absolutely amazing. ...
Ground based astronauts?14 Jul 2006 00:21 GMT1
Hi, do Julie Megan etc, get missions to fly, or are their roles merely
ground based.
They seem to have pretty intimate knowledge of the systems on board and only
refer back for decisions.
Solid Rocket Booster Videos13 Jul 2006 21:32 GMT5
A couple of days ago (I think it was Tuesday) I went to www.nasa.gov and
clicked on the view nasatv link.  It was around noon, maybe a little later.
The video being shown was of one of the SRBs tumbling to earth.  Right
before it splashed into the ocean I thought I saw the deck ...

Fuel cell anomolies13 Jul 2006 14:27 GMT3
So, there is a small leak in the fuel of apu1, and an over temp sensor in
the tank of apu 3 is not working properly.
Are these worrying?

ET Thermal Conductivity13 Jul 2006 08:09 GMT26
Question:
Is it possible that the change in thermal conductivity between the
alloy used to build the Lightweight ET and the Super Lightweight ET is
the cause of the increased cryopumping that has led to foam loss on the
Is NASA really testing the Heat Shield Materials?13 Jul 2006 03:34 GMT11
Putting two astronauts out at the end of the extention on the boom and
having them move around is a test. Models aren't accurate, now they are
calibrated. They were off over 100% in their models.
Doing tile and RCC repair test in the Payload Bay seems is fine and dandy,
Michelin logo on Shuttle tires13 Jul 2006 01:27 GMT10
Some time ago there was a question as to whether the Shuttle tires
carry the manufacturer's name.
http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/images/large/05pd2361.jpg
clearly shows Michelin written on the side.
