Cameras used by spacewalkers12 Aug 2005 05:06 GMT6
Apologies if this has been covered before, but I'm curious to know what
type of still cameras are used by astronauts during EVA.
Thanks,
Andy
Is Jay Barbaree senile?12 Aug 2005 04:05 GMT6
Is Jay Barbaree senile?
NBC always hypes that Jay Barbaree has covered every single manned
mission - maybe he's gone senile and covered a couple too many.
Besides the previous mistakes he made (see previous posts)
Why Won't the Space Shuttle Land Over the U.S.?12 Aug 2005 03:42 GMT35
I have seen different reasons for the Space Shuttle flight path not
passing over the U.S. on landing.
1) The orbit of the International Space Station requires the Space
Shuttle to re-enter from the SouthWest to NorthEast.
Wheels12 Aug 2005 03:21 GMT19
It appears that the wheels come down about 15 seconds before landing.  That
doesn't leave a lot of time if there are problems with them.  What are the
contingency plans if the wheels do not deploy?  Do they have time to
manually lower them?  If not, I guess they just come in for ...
entry video12 Aug 2005 02:23 GMT4
Is there a flightdeck video of Discovery's entry and landing?
I am watching the animation of the entry and landing which most people here
have probably seen, but all I hear is the one voice (is that FDO?). I don't
hear anyone else e.g. the flight crew.
Handoff and change of airports12 Aug 2005 02:21 GMT1
After landing, when is the vehicle handed off from the MCC to the
processing crew? I assume it's at somepoint after the commander leaves,
but there are still a large number of systems running at that point. How
long does it take to finally shut it all down, and at what point do ...
What's next (fixing the foam)12 Aug 2005 02:16 GMT1
Now that the drama of Discovery is over, what is next at NASA in terms of
fixing the ET and getting shuttles back in flight to complete their tasks ?
Will there be some form of enquiry on the foam ?
Or will NASA work quietly within itself to find some acceptable solution for
Shuttle - how many flights as pilot before becoming commander?12 Aug 2005 02:10 GMT9
So, in general, it seems that before becoming shuttle commander, an
astronaut must first fly as pilot. Is there a "minimum" amount of
flights one must make as pilot before being promoted to commander?
Canadarm terminology12 Aug 2005 02:07 GMT6
Why to they say someone "flys the arm" rather than "operate the arm"?
Is there some significance to this verb?  Hours spent operating the
robotic arm(s) wouldn't qualify as pilot time would it?
Launch window and launch lattitude12 Aug 2005 01:52 GMT1
At KSC, to an ISS orbit, the shuttle has about a 10 minute window, 5
minutes on either side of the perfect time.
If Shuttle were to be launched from an equatorial launch site, what
would the launch window be ?
De-orbit question12 Aug 2005 01:20 GMT3
Got a question from a neighbor here that I can't answer, but I'm sure
someone can help me out:
Question: Once the shuttle does the de-orbit burn for say a KSC
landing what are the options to NOT land? My impression was that once
"The Most Mollycoddled Mission"12 Aug 2005 01:18 GMT9
<http://www.economist.com/science/displayStory.cfm?story_id=4269835>
"SIGHS of relief all round greeted the touchdown of STS 114, as the
latest space-shuttle flight is known to the cognoscenti. In truth, this
was the most mollycoddled mission in NASA's history, so if anything
Where to find free launch videos?11 Aug 2005 19:42 GMT3
Insideksc.com is very slow and I have problems to register. ( can't see the
code numbers )
thanks
nozzle service11 Aug 2005 19:20 GMT2
After the spaceshuttle landed, the publicity shots show service trucks
parked behind the motor nozzles with hoses going into the nozzles. What are
they doing to the nozzles?
Columbia: Request.11 Aug 2005 14:12 GMT1
Sorry to be a bore. Someone posted a link to a site which had
a video of a cabin activities prior its tragic loss. The video had an
instruction hosted by a male.
Could the link be posted again please?
