It would have meant chromedome wouldn't have been able to have Eileen Collins on 8/30. You notice how Letterman didn't announce that she would be on until AFTER the shuttle returned home in one piece.

when the shuttle prototype 'enterprise' was separated in flight from the carrier to perform the flight tests, how did they prevent the shuttle from crashing into the airplane? does anyone know what kind of manoeuvre was performed?
