What penalties if one or more astronauts refused to go at the last minute?02 Aug 2005 16:11 GMT7
I wonder at what point the astronauts are considered to be obligated to
follow through on a launch?
What penalties or sanctions would they face if at some point close to
launch, even on the way up to the tower one of them said, "You know what
ESP2 preposistion - No heating is required for the spare parts?02 Aug 2005 15:21 GMT2
They have preposistioned ESP2 today and it will be unpowered until the EVA
tonight. I take it the spare parts mounted on it will not be damaged?
Foam Reinforcement fiber?02 Aug 2005 14:29 GMT1
Just wondering if the foam on the ET has any type of fiber reinforcement
in it or is it just the sprayed on foam?  Would adding long fibers of
fiberglass into the blend to hold the foam together in the PAL ramp area
or perhaps the entire side of the ET facing the shuttle be a ...
Heads down or heads up?02 Aug 2005 13:56 GMT2
I've just downloaded the STS-114 webcam movie and was somewhat
surprised to see the Shuttle roll over 180 degrees on its way to orbit.
I thought it maintained a heads-down attitude during ascent?

TDRS02 Aug 2005 06:07 GMT6
Did we not finish TDRS? Why are there gaps in coverage (TV)?
abort or not to abort02 Aug 2005 04:39 GMT23
So the cameras on the ET are for after the fact damage survey and not for
abort judgement?

More Evidence The Shuttle Program Should Be Scrapped02 Aug 2005 04:35 GMT8
Just read this story on AP. I mean if this doesn't start lightbulbs to
going off in the minds of NASA engineers, Congressmen and wanabe space
experts, then nothing will.
I know the shuttle was a great program when it started or so it seemed. But
viewonh opportunity or landing02 Aug 2005 04:32 GMT1
STSPlus is predicting an excellent landing opportunity August 8 around 6:08
using a current TLE. So, with my luck the scheduled de orbit burn
hypothetically will be 5:15. Anyone know?

Fuel tank paint02 Aug 2005 03:22 GMT3
The first dozen or so missions had the white paint on the external fuel
tank, then NASA did away with it and gained 600 lbs in extra payload in lieu
of the paint. Wouldn't the paint serve a purpuse of holding the foam in
place??? I'm guessing that was the idea of the original ...
Detailed ET Redesign Presentation from August 200402 Aug 2005 02:57 GMT5
Found this very interesting PDF:

Provides overview of the ET Redesign for STS 114 including photographs
of the PAL area. Clearly NASA considered whether this area was at risk
Question about the astronauts02 Aug 2005 02:37 GMT27
Does NASA require that all astronauts have to be circumcised?
I'd hate to be up there sharing close quarters with some guy whose dick is
a cheese making factory!
I think circumcised is better because it's cleaner.
