Need help answering my sons questions...03 Aug 2005 17:36 GMT7
Hello all...
My 12 year old son and I have been exploring astronomy and have a
couple of questions.
These may seem like no brainers but please bear with us..
Challenger revisited03 Aug 2005 16:47 GMT26
It is my understanding the SRB blow was analogous to a blow torch cutting
through the external tank and heating the lox tank to the point it imploded.
So this took around 73 seconds. (which was too soon to abort however if the
could have ditched the SRB they could aborted)
Spacewalk Successful - Gap Filers Easily Pull Out03 Aug 2005 16:32 GMT1
Title says it all.
If an astronaut Farts in his space suit can he smell it?03 Aug 2005 16:27 GMT1

Has this been posted anywhere online yet? Thanks.
Space shuttle theme colors?03 Aug 2005 12:28 GMT1
A question for you all...
I'm trying to think identifying theme colors for the space shuttles.
What color would you consider to be the best theme color for each of
the orbiters and why?
Inline Yay!03 Aug 2005 11:06 GMT2
Inline tanks and no more freonless foam - YAY
A much smaller command module - the only part that returns - YAY
(please make it like a small commercial jet, permanently on the go,
and able to land flat under its own power)
Won't the gap filler burn off?03 Aug 2005 10:08 GMT39
...when exposed to that kind of heat & turbulence?
Or is it made to take the heat, thereby making it suitable as a "gap
filler"....hmmmmm....kinda answered my own question....
I guess the smart thing to do would be to not send this post...but,
Apply shuttle ET foam in a vacuum.03 Aug 2005 04:44 GMT52
Interesting idea.
Is it the solution?
While he is around there...03 Aug 2005 01:12 GMT3
Why not spread some of that gunk ( a technical term for the repair material!
:-)) on that tile with the slight chip. A test of the substance in real
situations  ought to be good. I appreciate that they may want to not try an
untested substance  when crew's lives are  involved, ...
Discovery tiles will be fixed02 Aug 2005 21:37 GMT1
I have just come back from the pub so apolagies for any sluring of my
words.  Just checked the bbc news site before bed and they are saying the
protuding material from between the tiles will be repaired!
Is there any more detailed news?

Does a picture of this exist?02 Aug 2005 20:40 GMT5
As everyone is asking for camera shots taken in orbit of the shuttle and the
station, I've just wondered does a picture of the entire station _with_ the
shuttle docked into it exist?
Shuttle problems.02 Aug 2005 20:17 GMT3
I have a nagging feeling that a decision has already been made
-not- to return the shuttle to earth, given the problems which have
been discovered.
It just hasn't been made public at this stage.
