In the map for the long-range ground track (http://www.nasa.gov/images/content/124492main_sts114_ksc201_long.gif), what is the red symbol at 40N, 65W? What are the numbers along the right vertical axis of the map and what measurement unit are they in?

The tire blew the failing aluminum very far inside the failure zone of its structural inegrity. The outer wing would have failed a few seconds later without the tire blowing, but I don't think the Shuttle would have become so quickly twisted into a sideways position that ripped ...

On many Communications on this mission they seem to have had to reboot the systems to get a machine called proshare visible on the ground in order to transfer data. What version of Windows are they using?Sounds like 98, surely not!!

Leroy Cain has vetoed the second opportunity for Discovery to come home (to KSC) today. Delay 24 hrs. Despite forecast cloud ceiling at 15,000ft the actual conditions are scattered 500, scattered 700ft, and "unstable" atmospheric conditions.

In the early to mid 80s there were rumors that the US Military owned NASA type space orbiters of its own that had no names but only numbers. Were there ever any such orbiters or was it possibly do to somebody hearing military radio traffic that didn't use orbiter names?

I mentioned the other day, about a factual error in a press release and today there is another. Anyone just listening to the comms yesterday and this morning would know that it is Steve only who is going to do the gap filler operation, as indeed it was stated yesterday as well.
