Interesting comment/error on CNN18 Jul 2005 20:37 GMT5
They were observing the astros being strapped in, and commented on how
long they would be strapped in - which lead to the inevitable
discussion of 'how they go' while strapped in.  They did mention the
'wetback' incident, but attributed it to Glenn rather than Sheppard.
Time to Open the Tank18 Jul 2005 20:02 GMT2
It sure sounds like it might be time to bite the
bullet and open the LH2 tank to have a look at these
sensors and at the wiring harnesses within the tank
that connect to them.
Low Level Fuel Sensor18 Jul 2005 19:11 GMT12
Quote from cnn.com
"The sensor monitors the amount of super-cold hydrogen fuel in the tank and
tells the orbiter's engines to shut down if there's not enough fuel."
Hmmm, when my lawn mower does not have enough fuel, it shuts down, and it
Heat Resistant Material18 Jul 2005 15:11 GMT11
I remember seeing somewhere (on TV or something) a material that was
actually white hot (well definitely very hot) but a man was still able to
hold it in his hand.  It could have had something to do with a material used
in a space craft of some sort.
Money involved in rescuing astronauts18 Jul 2005 08:17 GMT16
NASA says if there was something wrong with the shuttle up in
space and the astronauts needed to be rescued they would send up
Atlantis to the rescue. We all know there's no doubt they would do
this, does anyone know how much it would cost to send Atlantis up

Some charts here to put locations on the items being discussed and some of the

Retro fit retired Blackbirds to be a Shuttle safety rescue system17 Jul 2005 19:44 GMT7
Oh yeah,
Can that - they've alredy been refitted with alien UFO propulsion
systems (Aurora)..  DOH, what was I thinkin'?  Yeah a large aerodynamic
space engineered flight vehicle that could be retrofitted with, hmm.
Where'd that foam come from?17 Jul 2005 19:25 GMT5
That piece of foam that came off the Columbia shuttle. Where'd it come
from? I mean I saw it on tv come out of the external fuel tank, but
before it comes jetting out you don't see it situated anywhere. The
external fuel tank(the rust colored one) just seems plain. Like
PRACA for Prelaunch LO2/LH2 Sensor Anomalies17 Jul 2005 18:57 GMT1
Here's a sample from the limited PRACA information presently available

Why would fuel exhaustion risk engine explosion?17 Jul 2005 18:54 GMT5
Its stated the depletion sensors cut off the engines at 5% fuel remaining
because if the tanks were allowed to run dry the engines might explode.
Why is that?  When a motorcycle fuel tank runs down, the engine just
sputters and quits when the carburetor fuel bowl level drops, with ...

under controllable conditions
so you can test different possible causes. Alan is right on top of this
story, and within hours I expect we'll know
