Lockmart's CEV-----back to the future?10 May 2005 23:41 GMT49
If "Popular Mechanics" has the story straight, it looks like Lockmart dug
deep into their dusty, musty files to come up with their current CEV design.

Delta IV Manned Launches from Florida Space Launch Complex 3710 May 2005 21:22 GMT2
Assuming for a moment that the proposed CEV will launch on the Delta 4
Heavy, I'm wondering what changes would have to made, if any to the
Boeing Complex 37 in Florida. Would the Astronauts enter and exit the
CEV through the Mobile Service Tower (MST)? Or, would some modification
Radar on spacecraft10 May 2005 18:58 GMT11
A few years back, a radar was flown on the Shuttle, Synthetic Aperture it
was called.
What kind of frequencies are used in this sort of radar, and what powers,
and how exactly do the antennas work?
Can't De-Icing Fluid be Used?09 May 2005 10:14 GMT4
Aircraft are de-iced with fluid to prevent ice accumulation during taxi and
take off.  So why can't this chemical approach be used also on the Space
Shuttle stack?
A hose and nozzle arrangement could shower the vehicle as it stands ready

Question about the new ET's. They do still have foam insulation? I
mean, these heaters aren't the only thing keeping ice from pelting the

ET LOX Feedline bellows heaters05 May 2005 01:33 GMT2
One of the reasons for the launch pushback for STS-114 is the apparent
need to install heaters on the LOX feedline bellows. As I understand it
this is in addition to the already modified feedline incorporating the
so called 'drip lid' arrangement.

Launch processing Atlas/Delta Heavies vs. Shuttle-derived04 May 2005 12:25 GMT6
Does anyone know how many people it takes to launch the shuttle at KSC -
what the size of the "standing army" is? How much of that is for the
orbiter? How many for Atlas or Delta? I know those are unwieldy questions -
where do you draw the line? The point I am trying to get at is: ...
2010 deadline03 May 2005 21:41 GMT3
Many here have denied a 2010 deadline for the end of the shuttle.
Yet, the CAIB report clearly states that to operate the shuttle beyond
2010, it would need major maintenance overhauls.
Will NASA maintain maintain the ability to perform major overhauls until
Dark Hypothesis Part 4 launch facilities of the future03 May 2005 19:26 GMT3
While a gotterdammerung is not anticipated with the demise of the shuttle
disestablishment of the Apollo era, i.e.  ad hocism of  the launch
capabilities of  KSC will entail a hydrogen based economy. The hydrogen
being mass produced by a complex of desalination plants which put
And what about civilian Shuttle casualties?03 May 2005 18:48 GMT40
Something I don't think I heard hardly a peep about during the last SS
mission, is how close civilians came to being taken out by flaming debris.
Noone on the ground agreed to take any "calculated risks".  I guess this
doesn't matter in comparison to all the bucks being made by ...
New NASA Administrator to consider HST repair mission03 May 2005 09:44 GMT8
Think so?  I think the right wing wackos want to see the HST die and the
next gen space telescope fail in deployment.  Kind of an ostrich
agenda of see no science contradicting the Bible, etc.
