Launch Profile Data15 Apr 2004 13:18 GMT2

intervals, how high, how fast and how far down range the space shuttle
is at any given time during the eight or so minutes from launch to
orbit? I would be interested to see the rate of change in these

23 Years13 Apr 2004 14:23 GMT4
Twenty-three years ago this morning, Columbia rose into the Florida sky
for the first time. It's really amazing how long it's been, and how much
has happened since.
HAIL COLUMBIA!!!

On-Board Software for the Mars Pathfinder Microrover12 Apr 2004 03:22 GMT17
Ran into an interesting paper on Mars Pathfinder.  Note how they did not have
to have a few gigabytes of memory and a 10 GHz processor.

Why does no Shuttle have to mean No Hubble?11 Apr 2004 17:22 GMT11
Why do the increased restrictions on Shuttle have to mean the
premature end of Hubble?  If the Administration wants to axe the STS
then fine.  If they want to build a new vehicle that will eventually
have its' own set of failures, then fine.  But why let these two

Space Medical Question07 Apr 2004 20:04 GMT18
Just curious how this would get handled...
I know that for minor medical emergencies in orbit that they can get
handled there and that more major might result in a quick deorbit and
landing...now the question....say we have a permanent lunar base or
Poll:  Significance of WLE Upgrade05 Apr 2004 21:16 GMT2
Years before the Columbia tragedy, NASA had identified a need to
upgrade the orbiter's wing leading edges in order to address their
assessment that "...the risk of a catastrophic puncture of an Orbiter
wing leading edge has increased."  (quoted from

Supporting a Mars mission05 Apr 2004 09:02 GMT36
Is there a way to design a care package delivery system  to a crew in transit
to mars?
Lets imagine a crew has just experienced a oxygen generator problem and all
spare parts have the same defect, difficult or impossible to manufacture on
inflation st yle heat shield crew bail out05 Apr 2004 03:35 GMT12
Has the idea of using inflation heat shield technology as a "life
boat" been examined?
I remember early space paper studies of man in orbit to ground via
schemes similar to ejection seats.  Granted, it is a high spot to step
