CEV development cost rumbles07 Mar 2004 20:08 GMT88
The 23Feb04 issue of Aviation Week reports that NASA is telling Congress
that the Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV), the space agencies latest and
greatest orbiter replacement, will cost $15B to develop. Earlier NASA
estimated that the Orbital SpacePlane (OSP), last year's super-duper ...
Here's a whacky idea...07 Mar 2004 18:55 GMT12
... what would it take to turn ISS into an interplanetary
craft? Engines, fuel, supplies, more fuel, more supplies,
etc? It is designed for long periods of habitability at
a time, seems like that's a big part of endurance space

Has anybody else here used it? I have and I have to say that it's almost
cool in a seventh-grade science class-kinda way.
I'm even considering incorporating the 3-D image of the Opportunity crater
in an AVP map I'm trying to build.

Major question is, what if the Shuttle came down over a LARGE population area,
or maybe worse, it is not in the US?
Creative thinking if we had another shuttle problem.07 Mar 2004 01:18 GMT17
Lets imagine for a moment our shuttle making it to orbit but because of some
trouble not being able to make ISS or deorbit.
Now the shuttle will cross ISS path in 3 days but be unable to revendous or
dock:(
3 years for a man to get to and from Mars?07 Mar 2004 00:34 GMT8
Just was reading on the space dot com website that it will be a three year
mission when and if we send men to Mars.
But when I was watching the animation of the Spirit and Opportunity missions
it said it took 7 months for the rover to get to Mars.

What is the planned completion date for ISS? I presume
that this will also be the end of the Shuttle program?
And what is the planned ending date of the ISS program?
Thanks!

Next Space Ship Name => CALYPSO05 Mar 2004 00:03 GMT31
Ayear ago I proposed to name "CALYPSO" a future Space Ship. The

Space Agency (ESA) have any plans to do so. In any case, here is the

Could hubble be reactivated at this location in the future once we get a new
manned vehicle operational?
Is this true?03 Mar 2004 14:49 GMT1
NASA has stated that one of the most significant dangers to the shuttle is
collisions with space debris or micrometeors. While docked at the ISS, the
shuttle must be turned into the path of any oncoming space debris or
micrometeors (which have already caused pits in the shuttle's ...
