Any other SETI screensavers?29 Oct 2005 12:56 GMT3
I've been googling, but are they not any add-on (BOINC) SETI screensavers?
The BOINC SETI screensaver is absolutetly worthless.  It is butt ugly and
gobbles resources.  Why do they even bother including it?
I doubt SETI is ever going to get around to making a practical screensaver

result that I'm expecting is faster crunching times. Everytime I restart the
Base Priority defaults to Low. boincmgr remains at Normal. Is there any way
to set it permanently to Normal or any other priority ...

Same thing on all my computers, WinXP and Win98:
Screensaver runs fine, dialogue box for password comes up, but mouse focus
can't get to the password field.
Berkeley servers down?24 Oct 2005 16:10 GMT2
Looking in from the UK, I find I am unable to raise any of the S@H
(Berkeley) web pages. Is this a common experience for others?
Also, I see my PCs (hosts under SETI-BOINC) seem unable to collect new
WUs. Is there something up at Berkeley that anyone knows?

I was doing some digitizing of voice recordings when I found a
surprising effect. The first zip file linked below is of a voice
recording in MP3 format. The digital sampling rate was at the default
44khz. The second zipped file is the result when I applied the slower

Has anoyone attempted to 'moonbounce' or EME ATSC UHF band TV signals, in the UHF band allocation?20 Oct 2005 14:16 GMT26
Has anyone attempted to 'moonbounce' or EME ATSC UHF band TV signals, in the
UHF band allocation?
It might make a nice publicity stunt for the TV station involved.

I mean, at least by using the mail, they are paying to deliver the
message, but really!  Anyone else get it?

"Message in the Sky", by S. Hsu, and A. Zee
This article in the arXiv:physics archive (11 Oct 2005) proposes that
