| processing times | 30 Oct 2004 18:17 GMT | 3 |
I've a 400 Hz Mac Cube under OS 9.2 processing classic at around 14-15 hours per unit and a Pentium something at 400 MHz under linux (Fedora Core2) with about the same performance. -Makes sense as my old 233 MHz G3 needs 22-24 hours per wu.

| ETIs and the speed of light | 29 Oct 2004 12:48 GMT | 7 |
I have a question that I've been pondering for some time. In order for an ETI to detect us, they'd have to be within a radius of at most 110 to 120 light-years, because we began experimenting with radio communications around the turn of the 20th century (or thereabouts. I'm ...

| About beacons | 29 Oct 2004 02:04 GMT | 2 |
It is well known that seti@home, and actually most other SETI projects on-going, are currently focusing on detecting a 'beacon' signal from an ETI, containing a message deliberately aimed and intended for us. In this posting, I want to show that it is very unlikely (less than 0.001%

| Beautiful Lunar Eclipse.. | 28 Oct 2004 07:33 GMT | 2 |
If you can see the moon right now from your neck of the planet, look outside ! Total lunar eclipse is going on and it is beautiful. It reflects a nice orange/reddish glow of the sun light which came through the earth atmosphere. From the moon, earth must look like a reddish circle ...

| switch to BOINC? | 27 Oct 2004 19:21 GMT | 5 |
are there any compelling reasons to switch from SETI Classic to BOINC? I really do not want to use BOINC until I absolutely have to, because as far as I've seen, it's very buggy and hard to configure, and there are almost no good add-ons written for it (examples of what I'm talking ...

I'm running BOINC (4.13) in a terminal window under Linux, running SETI2, LHC and CP. When BOINC is switching from one project to another, it's leaving a WU in memory - Does that mean, that if I am closing down the terminal window,

| About ET radar.. | 25 Oct 2004 07:41 GMT | 6 |
I have been wanting to write this for a long time. I will create a web-site for this at some time, but for now, I'd just like to get your feedback. There have been many questions in the newsgroup as to how far away our earthly transmissions are detectable. Also the seti FAQ page ...
