| Latest BOINC Seti Message, 30 July | 31 Jul 2004 04:43 GMT | 5 |
July 30, 2004 The project is *still* down. The database cleanup for the bug found on July 28 is going much slower than expected. We hope to have everything back up later today or early tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience!

| Is there a point to SETI@home anymore? | 30 Jul 2004 23:34 GMT | 11 |
I've been using SETI@home for years now. I've set it up at the colleges I attended, at home and at work. But here recently, I've been thinking about the point of it. To my knowledge, SETI@home is out of new data completely. So what

| host name? | 30 Jul 2004 16:55 GMT | 1 |
I am using SETI Gate, and since about 3 weeks ago, it is unable to return results or update my user data. Apparently, in the past month, SETI@Home changed the SETI host address. Currently, SetiGate is set to use shserver.ssl.berkeley.edu. Has the host address for WU's

| 9 min wu | 30 Jul 2004 04:14 GMT | 1 |
A while ago I had a work unit complete in 9 minutes +/- some seconds - usual time is around 20 hours or so. I think this indicated either a corrupted wu or maybe a test wu. Would this be correct? Curious...

| Just curious how long a unit takes on a 2.8 Ghz | 30 Jul 2004 03:42 GMT | 13 |
It takes me 3 hours 40 minutes on a P4 2.8 Ghz 533 FSB with DDR 333 Mhz ram. Is that what is expected from this setup? I tried searching the groups but didn't get any similar setups.

| McAfee vs SETI@home version 3.08 | 29 Jul 2004 17:06 GMT | 34 |
Open question to anyone in the group. A few days ago I downloaded McAfee to set up a firewall. Once it was installed the SETI@Home program slowed to a snails pace. I turned McAfee off and the program was still slow so I uninstalled the McAfee and now SETI is running

| SETI-BOINC ... can it make use of virtual HT processors as well? | 29 Jul 2004 04:58 GMT | 4 |
I am aware the SETI-BOINC software can make use of multiprocessor machines. Can the software sense and make use of hyper threaded virtual CPUs? For example - a dual HT enabled Xeon could run 4 instances at the same time!!

| BOINC Commands | 27 Jul 2004 22:03 GMT | 4 |
Running BOINC 3.20 CLI on linux box. Notice Boincseti site is back up but my log showed communication was being deferred for 2+ hours. Since I had two WU's to upload and was down to the last hour on my current WU I tried the -update_prefs URL (http://setiathome.berkeley.edu) and

| BOINC crash | 27 Jul 2004 21:16 GMT | 7 |
I had this problem before (also posted to this group). I completely deleted BOINC and Seti from my computer and reinstalled it. I got one WU after a few days of waiting :), which is finished now. Everytime BOINC launches, it tries to transfer the result and crashes.
|
| What is going on with SETI-boinc now? | 27 Jul 2004 20:11 GMT | 4 |
Everything seems to be running. I can upload finished WU's. I can update. Haven't hit low watermark yet, so I cannot check if there is fresh work available. I see no complaints about a lack of WU's. Is that correct? I everybody getting a reasonable amount of work?
