Since Min has claimed that the ancients knew all about Uranus, which
can *just* be seen with the naked eye, and was plotted on star-charts
by ancient Chinese astronomers who must have seen it but didn't
realize it was a planet, maybe we should wonder why ancient observers

precession of Mercury's orbit21 Mar 2007 04:05 GMT9
Most of us have heard of the 43-arcsecond per century precession of the
major axis of the orbit of Mercury. It was unexplained until Einstein
developed Relativity, which predicted the precession very exactly. This
accuracy was one of the most persuasive pieces of evidence in ...

dark matter in black holes14 Mar 2007 22:29 GMT7
Does anyone know whether it is thought that dark matter can fall into,
and become part of, a black hole? After all, there's a lot more dark
matter than regular matter, and dark matter is apparently affected by
gravity. All the calculations I've seen concerning black holes seem to ...
N-stars = dark matter?14 Mar 2007 22:26 GMT2
I found those gravitational-lens simulations, two of them. I'll append
them below. They're QBasic programs. Many people should be able to run
them.
The first one imagines a situation in which a star randomly emits photons,

New 'superlens' will revolutionize astronomy, medicine, biology.04 Mar 2007 03:19 GMT3
These are lenses that operate on a principle of "negative refractive
index". They are able to break the diffraction limit that was believed
to limit the resolution achievable in an optical system based on its
aperture and the wavelength observed:
