| Martian Spheres are Sponge Gemmules! | 17 Mar 2004 03:57 GMT | 19 |
The outcrop at the Opportunity site is covered by a decomposing or partially fossilized sponge and its gemmules, possibly of the species spongilla. The images make this clear imo. But I'm a mathematician not a biologist and I need some professional feedback. Please

| MARS: "Bunny" & Reflective Sand | 07 Mar 2004 22:52 GMT | 17 |
Some people propose that the object seen here http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/spotlight/opportunity/b19_20040304.html photographed by the Mars Rover Opportunity and known as the "bunny" may be evidence of Martian life. NASA's analysis posted at that page

| Where, When & For How Long? | 07 Mar 2004 20:33 GMT | 6 |
From looking at the topographic maps of Mars, it may be possible to determine which parts of the surface were covered with an ocean. Were Diemos and Phobos formed before or after the oceanic evaporation/absorption? If there were waves or a tidal force, it

| Martian Eclipse | 07 Mar 2004 19:32 GMT | 14 |
The Opportunity Rover appears to have successfully imaged an eclipse of the sun by the martian moon Deimos. Now, Deimos is small and the Pancam imager has a limited resolution, so it is just a speck moving across the sun, but I think it's pretty darned cool anyhow.

I found an interesting pseudo-fossil image from Terra Meridiani. It is either a fossil trilobite or one of those a dissolved gypsum crystal vugs the scientists were telling us about. You decide... http://aix1.uottawa.ca/~weinberg/mars/butterfly_m_039.jpg
