| Save the 2009 Mars rover. . . | 20 Feb 2004 20:07 GMT | 24 |
No, not from the budget axe or the usual suspects, but from a far more pernicious foe: the TooMuchNewStuffAtOnceists. I sent the president's space commission an email suggesting they ensure a 'moon first, then Mars' testing regimen for the entire initiative, not just human

| Human spaceflight and AI | 20 Feb 2004 18:35 GMT | 35 |
I was just thinking, there may be a rather simple point that will make human spaceflight more or less irrelevant. Suppose at some point, quite possibly in just a couple of decades, we develop computers that have the intelligence of human being. Then why not send AI there

| Is NASA Contaminated with Radio Activity? | 20 Feb 2004 00:57 GMT | 4 |
Who is in charge in NASA? I mean the Real NASA - down by the Ocean. It seems to me that about 25 Years ago they stored some NUKES in the main hanger for couple of weeks and ever since then there have been fewer and fewer Scientists around every Year. I wouldn't go there.

| Prizes vs Market Guarantees | 20 Feb 2004 00:14 GMT | 5 |
IMO, the main problem with prizes is that prizes do not do much to encourage sponsorship or investment in competing teams. Corporate sponsors spend their budgets a year or two in advance. Individual sponsors are hard to come by

| Humans Visiting Viking Lander(s) on Mars | 19 Feb 2004 21:22 GMT | 83 |
A manned mission to visit one of the Viking landers could provide us info on how various materials on the landers have held up to the Martian atmosphere and which of these materials are best to use on that planet. How would you

| The Moon and Earth | 19 Feb 2004 19:17 GMT | 6 |
How many times does a man have to go to the Moon to prove he has been there? The answer is 6 times. Apollo 9 - the famous and awesome trip Apollo 10 - didn't quite make it

| Any Missions to Venus planned (Landers)? | 19 Feb 2004 07:40 GMT | 69 |
Am I the only one who would love to see a 360 degree panorama of the surface of Earth's hellish twin Venus? It's such a fascinating environment. Any probes planned at any time in the future? I know Venus is much harder to land on than Mars, and you'd probably only have a working ...

| Going to the moon...again? | 19 Feb 2004 00:58 GMT | 38 |
I was around the first time the US sent men to the moon. About the time of the first landing, the movie 2001 came out. That was how it was going to be 30 years hence, and the first steps on the moon proved that man was on his way.

Gregg Easterbrook is at it again. http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101040126/sceasterbrook.html I wonder if this column is as error filled as his shuttle OpEds? (I haven't read this one, yet).
