Bush Space Initiative (if Leak True)27 Jan 2004 00:20 GMT62
Follow the money.  The supposed plan calls for increasing
NASA's budget from $15.5 billion to $20 billion over a five
year period.  The only actual new program mentioned is the
new crew exploration vehicle (CEV), which will probably take

MER-B DIMES image26 Jan 2004 22:27 GMT2
There's a very interesting and odd-looking linear feature in the large
crater in the DIMES images from Opportunity.

The New NASA Mission Has Been Grossly Mischaracterized.26 Jan 2004 19:42 GMT25
The media and this group should stop calling the new NASA directive a 'moon
plan'.  It seems that the belief is that Bush is cancelling everything NASA
does and moving all the money into a manned moon base.  This isn't the case
at all.
Good news and bad about Mars rover...26 Jan 2004 11:12 GMT2
Dateline - Washington     The NASA chief held a press conference
today to talk about the good news and the bad news surrounding the Mars
rover, as well as to clear up any public misunderstandings about what has
happened.  The good news is that the rover is now communicating with ...

Re: "Good news" -- Spirit responds in 'cripple mode'26 Jan 2004 07:11 GMT2
You won't find this information because it's bullshit. But you go ahead and
search for it. When you can't get it, ask yourself WHY. Or do like all the
other good citizen sheep do and make excuses for the lack of proof. And be
sure to precede each fact with "They probably used..." or ...
Naming the Vehicle26 Jan 2004 06:09 GMT18
One of the minor nits I have about the President's space initiative is that
it perpetuate's NASA's modern tendency to have boring names for proposed
space vehicles. Crewed Exploration Vehicle somehow does not sing as well
as--say--Mercury, or Gemini, or Apollo. So, as a public ...
For all Americans here26 Jan 2004 01:59 GMT101
Reading your posts concerning President Bush's proposed return to the
Moon and on to Mars I am surprised by the degree of cynicism and
negativity a lot of you have shown towards it and NASA.  Whatever
happened to the American can-do attitude and Americans loving a

Mars Lander 25 Jan 2004 21:03 GMT18
Now that the Spirit rover isn't working what scientific data can the
lander itself send?  In particular, does the lander provide Martian
atmospheric data?
Bush's Space Proposal25 Jan 2004 19:28 GMT21
Is there any science in Bush's space proposal?
1) Robotic exploration of the moon.
    Long overdue.
2) Maned Martian flyby.
US to use Ariane launch vehicles?25 Jan 2004 17:51 GMT55
From nasawatch.com:
"To pay for the new effort -- which would require a new generation of
spacecraft but use Europe's Ariane rockets and Russia's Soyuz capsules
in the interim -- NASA's space shuttle fleet would be retired as soon
Oh dear..... clueless ESA thinks it discovered water on Mars...25 Jan 2004 16:30 GMT13
In recent years a few Americans have started to worry about Europe falling far
behind the United States. I am so glad that Europe has finally got around to
discovering water on Mars. ;-)
A discovery which America appears to have made over 30 years ago.
This is just bullshit25 Jan 2004 11:26 GMT53
Today here in England on the noon ITN news was a report on Bush's
space program for the Moon and Mars, the ITN 'science correspondent'
popped on after the report and said that as the "Martian atmosphere is
so thin, the Suns UV rays go straight to the surface, and the most
