Metallic Hydrogen physical properties25 Dec 2003 01:16 GMT4
I've seen a lot of references to the use of solid metallic hydrogen as a
very energetic explosive, but I've seen nothing on what metallic
hydrogen would be like physically. Do we know know what it would be like
as far as density, strength, etc. How about sensitivity to shock and
X-Prize in 200425 Dec 2003 00:18 GMT11
I noticed the article about SpaceShipOne breaking the sound barrier
and it got me to wondering how many of the X-Prize participants look
like they will have something flying in 2004. Does anyone besides
Scaled look as if they might be in  a position to try for the prize in
Antimatter propulsion25 Dec 2003 00:11 GMT9

I'm personally not a fan of antimatter propulsion at this time as there's no
orbital debris removal24 Dec 2003 17:12 GMT58
I understand that in LEO there is a substantial concentration of very
small debris, most of which cannot be tracked because it is too small.
In fact the space shuttle is sometimes hit by such things leaving
craters in its windows.  Some of this tiny debris can be hazardous to
SpaceShipOne Busts Sound Barrier23 Dec 2003 21:48 GMT20
A good way to celebrate the anniversary.

Lessons Learned23 Dec 2003 05:37 GMT15
My latest Fox column, in which I discuss human motivators (*none* of
which is cooperation), the historical basis for them, and the
relevance to any potential near-term space policy announcements.

Back to the moon idea - dual lunar-orbit rendezvous17 Dec 2003 14:13 GMT20
Started kicking this idea around in Orbiter...
"New" technology required:
Lunar landing vehicle - Maybe similar to Apollo LM, could maybe be
heavier/larger
Wesley Clark Against Return to the Moon17 Dec 2003 03:15 GMT6
During his campaign speech, Clark made indirect reference to reports that
Bush plans to return U.S. astronauts to the moon.
''I see a country that can produce great scientists and engineers,'' Clark
told the crowd. ''We've already been to the moon. We did it.''
Orbital Debris Liability17 Dec 2003 00:30 GMT1
Lately I've been giving some thought to ownership and liability issues of
orbiting objects and how increased satellite density and the accidents that
follow will necessitate the creation of new legal remedies.
The prinicple driving issue may be orbital impacts and the liability that
How many SPSes for $ 87 billion ?17 Dec 2003 00:07 GMT298
The fact that the USA is going to spend $87 billion to secure their
energy supplies in the Middle East speaks volumes.
$87 billion is "real money" (you know, a billion here, a billion
there...etc)
Whatever happened to the Dust Sail?16 Dec 2003 01:28 GMT5
I haven't seen any news on the "dust sail" concept for quite a while.
Has research on the subject been shelved? Supposedly, ionized
particles could be effectively linked to a rotating magnetic field
(generated by a spacecraft) to form a "dust disk", and somehow there

We'll know soon enough.
BTW, the planned Falcon launch is apparently supposed to go from
Space Launch Complex 3-West at Vandenberg AFB, formerly used for
Atlas E/F/H launches.  The site's service and unbilical towers
