Current word is that first stage operation was normal, but that the stages failed to separate. The word is from Elon Musk himself. They have two more Falcon 1s ready to fly, and they'll keep on going for the forseeable future.

Scheduled for 4 pm Pacific Daylight Time, today, August 2. Only just now announced officially, SpaceX has been playing their cards tight. They don't get much of a launch range window, either. http://www.spacex.com --should be live video feed
