I mentioned something along these lines about a year back. The idea would be to control the inputs so that wherever the astronaut's torso was pointing became their "down", or alternately, a certain direction in the spacecraft would be the same thing:

It looks like it was some sort of LOX feed problem, not the engine. http://www.nasaspaceflight.com/content/?cid=5018 I'm sure the Atlas 5 team is breathing a sigh of relief, although the exoneration is not official yet.

I believe it's crucial that the new roadmap to the moon be trumpeted not as a "redo" of Apollo (or 'Apollo on steroids') but rather simply as a continuation of it, picking up where the agency left off, only with better technology.
