Back in good ol' medieval times, you could always tell when the shite
was about to hit the fan when things started going entirely wrong; when
dogs and cats started sleeping together, when hens were born from
hard-boiled eggs, when priests began taking a strange and unnatural

Viking 2 was turned off April 11, 1980, when "its batteries failed".
Viking 1 operated until 13 November 1982, when a faulty command sent by
ground control overwrote antenna pointing software resulted in loss of
contact.

It was 10 years ago today that Mars Pathfinder was launched. It doesn't seem
that long ago to me.
Even more scary- 41 years ago on this day, in 1965, Frank Borman and Jim
Lovell lifted off on their Gemini VII mission.

I was just watching the gemini DVD again.  It said that an ejection
from the capsule probably wouldn't have been survivable because of the
speed.  why didn't Gemini use the escape tower like Mercury and
Apollo?
