Lockmart CEV design released31 Dec 2006 19:19 GMT88
It looks like an early Dyna-Soar concept with the Hermes orbital module
attached to the back, riding on a Centaur stage:

Internally, it seems to resemble Kliper to some extent.

Slingshot around Jupiter30 Dec 2006 22:45 GMT7
I saw on a video where a small spacecraft was heading for Pluto and
would do a loop around Jupiter on the way for a little boost.  Does it
have to do a burn to get into orbit, then another to get out of orbit,
or is its path only being slightly bent by the pull of Jupiter?

People into orbit30 Dec 2006 16:27 GMT1
So by my count, this last shuttle mission (Discovery STS-116) included the
996th through 1002nd times that a human being went from the Earth into Earth
orbit.  (Not "space" but all the way into orbit).  Those seven people put
the world over the 1000 mark, but I didn't notice NASA ...

I just wanted all of you to know what a great joy I've had shooting the
breeze with you, agreeing with you, disagreeing with you, being
killfiled by you, and writing down the names of those who I thought
might have killfiled me in the "List Of Doom" during the past year.
We forgot something28 Dec 2006 10:25 GMT18
That of course being the "Most Valuable Space Newsgroup Contributor Of
The Year Award".
And we know why we forgot it also.
Because, let's face it, it's inevitably you-know-who.

Deap Space Navigation28 Dec 2006 08:59 GMT62
Does anyone know how we navigate our deep space probes?  I know we use radar
and GPS in LEO.  What do we use for deep space?  My guess is we use Doppler
shift a lot -- but that is just a guess.
My understanding is the navigation system of the probe that had the unit

Anyone read this?

Based upon the reviews, sounds like I should give it a pass, but just
wondering if anyone on the group has read it and has an opinion.
