Next unmanned lunar landing -- when?
I'm doing a short essay for the 40th anniversary
of the Luna-9 moon landing, and will speculate
on when unmanned lunar landings will resume.

Deimos: prelude to Mars?10 Nov 2005 19:29 GMT5
The idea may be notoriously unsexy -- it was when I floated it here a few
years ago -- but are there any new thoughts about the advisability of
setting up a base on one of the Martian moons as a place to study the planet

Thinking about a 'new' Apollo 809 Nov 2005 17:14 GMT26

that would lift off of Mars and return to earth a Mars sample ?? I'm
thinking this would have to be a fairly hefty launch vehicle containing
fuel, electronics, manoeuvring systems, a sample container with ...
Shuttle window question08 Nov 2005 03:54 GMT1
I was just watching a program on NASA's space centers on The Science
Channel, and they stated that each of Shuttle's forward  cockpit windows
gets polished for between 600 to 800 man-hours after each flight.

Woo Hoo! First Man is out.08 Nov 2005 01:02 GMT1
I dropped into the local bookstore last weekend to pick up Richard
Clarke's new novel. As I entered the store, there was a familiar face on
a dust jacket. First Man, The life of Neil A. Armstrong by James Hansen
is now available.
wake up music07 Nov 2005 10:54 GMT6
I've always wondered, have they ever waken up the astronauts with
either "Space Oddity" or "Ashes to Ashes" by David Bowie?
Has there ever been an astronauat in space with the rank of Major and
the first or last name of Tom or Thomas?

Laurie Anderson and NASA05 Nov 2005 22:30 GMT16
I really like Laurie Anderson's work, as I think she is a little
cracked, and that appeals to me.

However, her "Artist-In-Residence" status at NASA is a bit of an odd use
stack lateral movement ?05 Nov 2005 22:08 GMT9
I'm just curious if anyone knows how much the shuttle stack moves
horizontally before it clears the pad. Just been watching a launch on DVD
and it got me wondering.
Cheers...........Adam
