| Koelle: Saturn retrospective | 30 Jun 2005 16:26 GMT | 63 |
Ran across this looking for something else entirely: "Birth, Life and Death of the Saturn Launch Vehicles", H.H. Koelle http://vulcain.fb12.tu-berlin.de/Raumfahrzeugtechnik/ILR-Mitteilungen/Archive/IL R351.pdf ...in English, don't worry. Dated 2001, but parts read as though they

| Cosmos 1 is space history, literally | 30 Jun 2005 14:32 GMT | 26 |
The Planetary Society gets yet another taste of how challenging spaceflight can be. Now they have lost two spacecraft in a row. But history teaches us of teething problems with other organizations in early spaceflight efforts. JPL's Ranger series comes to mind.

| Cocoa Beach | 27 Jun 2005 21:39 GMT | 3 |
I'm finally getting to Cocoa Beach and I'll be there for RTF. Looks like I'm consigned to viewing the launch from Titusville though as I couldn't get any passes for KSC. Anyway, I'm asking the group if any knows any good space book store / hobby shop / junk shop in the area.

| National Geographic Doc - 6/25 | 27 Jun 2005 19:34 GMT | 3 |
Anyone see the National Geographic documentary on Gemini 8? Lots of interview footage with Chris Craft, David Scott and some of the controllers and downlink managers. Pretty hairy time they had. It was a full hour show and went into fairly fine detail on the mission.

| Two Point Suspension for Gemini Parachute | 25 Jun 2005 01:47 GMT | 18 |
Here is another of those "how come" questions. What is the reason for the two point suspension used to attach the main recovery parachute to the Gemini spacecraft? I have googled and found descriptions of the system but no rationale for this apparent added complexity.
