| Contingency plans for unexpected battery life aboard Huygens | 19 Jan 2005 07:18 GMT | 4 |
Need some clarification on the unexpected battery life aboard Huygens and what, if any, was the plan in place to deal with it. We heard in the press conference yesterday that ESA was hustling get as much earth based RT coverage as they could to pick up signal as Cassini went over

| Gus Grissom: Study in Contrasts | 18 Jan 2005 23:02 GMT | 1 |
In recent weeks, I've been confronted several times with a quote from Gus that I believe bears addressing. People have asked me if Gus would have wanted all of this attention on Apollo One, given his statement that if he died, he wanted people to accept it. While well-intended,

| Unnoticed space history milestone | 18 Jan 2005 21:16 GMT | 3 |
While updating my flight history spreadsheets I stumbled onto something I hadn't noticed earlier: the Soyuz TMA-5 launched to ISS last October was the 100th manned Soviet/Russian space flight, depending on how you measure. Soyuz 32 launched with a crew but entered unmanned; ...

| Huygens shows possible life on Titan | 17 Jan 2005 23:14 GMT | 20 |
http://www.fileplace.info/14012005/3697.jpg I suppose the kooks will come out of the woodwork and claim that this is "proof," but further examination is needed.

| ESA and public relations - not a happy coule | 17 Jan 2005 22:40 GMT | 20 |
When Huygens data were about to come into ESOC at Darmstadt the only real-time link for the general public was a webcast from the control room via NASA-TV(!). ESA-TV only goes out via satellite and sometimes via a channel called EuroNews (which very few households have).

| Space Cruiser updates... | 17 Jan 2005 22:07 GMT | 2 |
I have not yet had time to compose Part 2 of my articles on the Space Cruiser. This has been due to having to travel rather a lot recently (bleah!!). However, in a way that is perhaps just as well: today I had a conversation with the widow of Fred "Bud" Redding, the guy who ...

| Huygens or the Prince? | 16 Jan 2005 19:41 GMT | 26 |
Just shows how stupid the media is. The number one story from Europe today is some prince's Nazi armband flap, and not the Huygens probe. Just goes to show how idiotic the press is. I have abosultely no respect for them.
