| ISS as Mars vehicle | 29 Dec 2004 05:35 GMT | 38 |
I'm guessing this has been discussed before, but with the new initiatives on solar sails and ion propulsion drives, humor me anyway. As opposed to trying to orbit and proof an entire

| Question about shielding radiation? | 23 Dec 2004 13:07 GMT | 2 |
Say shielding 90% of radiation was possible by using magnets. Would it then be possible to go and do what ever me wanted using the ISS.? Assuming it was fully equipped and it could then be done at a pace and all the new cup and coming water reprocessing systems are put in place.?

| How is SpaceX doing? | 20 Dec 2004 17:58 GMT | 20 |
The SpaceX website's August/September update says they have a Q1 2005 paid flight, and that the Falcon I is on the launch pad at Vandenberg. It's not clear, though, if the Falcon on the pad is the one launching

| Thoughts on alternative launch methods | 20 Dec 2004 05:53 GMT | 14 |
Has anyone here heard of a mass driver? I believe it is basically a long, sloping track on which sits a platform, atop which is the payload (with booster) that you wish to launch. I also have heard that the platform would be accelerated down

| Precession question | 17 Dec 2004 23:11 GMT | 2 |
I've come to this newsgroup for some help with a question regarding the behavior of a billiard ball on a string which is rotating about a central point. Since this is in some ways similar to a mass in orbit, I'd like to ask for confirmation or rebuttal of this idea:

| Looking for cheap fuel cell materials?? | 14 Dec 2004 18:29 GMT | 5 |
I have been very curious lately about the fuel cell technology, and I am interested in trying out a few demontrations on my own. I've found a few sites on the internet that sell Fuel Cell Kits, but they seem to be pretty expencive considering they are very low power.

| Cassini: Titan orbit insertion? | 13 Dec 2004 23:41 GMT | 3 |
Does Cassini have enough propellant that it would be possible to perform Titan orbit insertion (TOI)? If so, and if Cassini would be placed on an orbit of Titan, what would be the scientific benefits/drawbacks of the mission? It's clear that Cassini would

About 10 years ago I was using a Mac and a program called Voyager II. It was a great program, I still use it today on this ancient Mac laptop I got off eBay. Also, I use USNO's Multiyear Interactive Computer Almanac (MICA), on a PC. MICA is due for an update after next year. The ...

| Sun angle and spysats | 06 Dec 2004 04:00 GMT | 5 |
There's a cute illustration of the tendency for optical spysats to have orbits optimized for, among other things, sun angle and time of day at http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/ukraine/kiev-imagery-01.htm Note that in the two pictures of Independence Square in Kyiv(*),
