I've taken lo-res amateur spectra of WR stars and have been advised the apparent emission lines at ~656.3nm, for example, may not be due to H-alpha but HeI. Can someone explain the physics? TIA. Nytecam

...but not one I've found answered in a FAQ. On a whim I bought my son one of those Lidl Meade Skylux telescopes last year. As it turned out it's not at all bad so long as I stick to the 20mm eyepiece and we've had some fun finding things like the ring nebula

Observing a bit tonite and I was surprised to see Capella blinkning and changing colors rapidly. Clearly these are some atmospheric effects, but I've never seen this effect so distinctly. Are there some known conditions in the atmosphere this week, like volcanic ash?
