Speed of gravity and the solar system04 Apr 2005 09:39 GMT4
How does Relativity account for the stability of the planetary orbits
if the speed of gravity is not inifinite, as in Newtonian Dynamics?
Big bodies in outer Solar System04 Apr 2005 06:12 GMT9
Does anyone have an overview of how big bodies can exist in the outer
Solar System?
Kuiper-belt objects are located between 30 and 50 AU. They were found
quite recently and one was as big as Quaoar, 1300 km across and

astro newsgroups using Tiscali03 Apr 2005 21:12 GMT21
Given news.inidividual.net is charging for USENET newsgroup access, I was
wondering what other free options are available (if at all).  I use Tiscali
for my ISP, but specifically it does not include sci.astro.amateur which I
regularly access.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

Is it true that our solar system is currently moving thru a Galactic cloud.
It can pose danger by destroying the Ozone layer.
RedShift 403 Apr 2005 18:52 GMT2
Would anyone kindly tell me if RedShift 4 works no problem on XP/SP2?
It's been ok in Win98SE, but now I'd like to use it on a different
o.s.
Thanks for any clue.

worldtimeserver.com works?  How can it sync over the ethernet when

second?  Anyone know the algorithm used?
Filter comparison - unexpected result!03 Apr 2005 13:27 GMT2
Last night I decided to do a comparison between the effective transmission of
an IDAS filter and an infra-red blocker.  My wish was to identify the most
effective of these two filters for obtaining deeper sky images.  I am using a

Photons/Universe or Neutrinos/Universe02 Apr 2005 23:42 GMT20
Until I've learned otherwise, I'm sticking with my saying 1e100
photons/atom
I'm also sticking with the notion of anti-matter being at the core of a
given blackhole, and summarily surrounded by absolute hordes of
telescope out of skylight ?02 Apr 2005 18:53 GMT16
I am thinking of a design to enable me to put my telescope (LX10 currently)
out of our study skylight (velux window) when required. Hopefully this will
get it far enough away from any hot air escaping through the window, I could
also make some kind of a blind if required.

Hi all,
Took these full moon images with the Patrick Moore's 15" f6 Newt on Good

More on Porrima (aka Gamma Virginis)02 Apr 2005 10:51 GMT2
Given the recent discussion on Porrima (whether it current nearing to
periastron can be seen/imaged and/or the double can be separated at
all or not) I gave it a go the other week. Due to it being very low in
the UK I had to filter for red (hence the potential resolution is
