apparent magnitude through scope23 Feb 2005 15:57 GMT5
Hello.  How does one calculate the apparent magnitude of star as viewed
through a telescope?  For example, if a star has a known naked-eye apparent
magnitude of 3, what would that star's apparent magnitude be, as viewed
through a 5" scope?

Patrick Moore's 15" reflector23 Feb 2005 10:38 GMT19
Patrick's 15" reflector is undergoing a bit of a restoration courtesy
of some local Selsey astronomers (it's obviously in the water!).  As
well as an impressive optical heritage, the scope is a fascinating
piece of engineering.

Dots in the sky22 Feb 2005 14:51 GMT9
There are strange points of light in the sky and the background colour
has changed from grey-orange to dark blue with a hint of orange. The
dots are too numerous and slow moving to be aircraft.
I intend to resurrect a device which has lain dormant for generations
