Distance from the earth to the moon11 Jul 2008 18:53 GMT15
Roughly how long have astronomers been able to calculate the distance
between the earth and the moon with a reasonable degree of accuracy?  I
have briefly rooted around the internet for an answer, but have not been
able find one.  It's been a long time since I took physics.

5" Celestron Schmidt-Cass, Mount on Camera Tripod11 Jul 2008 15:59 GMT3
Is there some accessory for the telescope in Subject that allows one to
mount it to the head of a camera tripod? There's a rail along the bottom
length of the OTA that has two screw holes at either end for a camera
tripod, but that seems a little awkward. A screw hole in the ...

Stargazing and Mosquitoes10 Jul 2008 14:14 GMT10
So, I often see posts and info on red lights and so on, but I don't
see too much about dealing with bugs and critters.
Do you put out smoke pots or incense? Maybe one of those UV bug
zappers, (although powering high voltage could be problematic.)
I have a question about Deep Cycle Batteries10 Jul 2008 01:08 GMT15
I'm heading up to Shingletown Star party this coming weekend and I have a
question about the size/capacity of the battery I'll need. I usually image
where I have access to AC power so this has not been an issue for me
previously.

Object (comet?) near Altair, ID sought09 Jul 2008 16:54 GMT13
A few hours ago a member of Rod Mollise's sct-user Yahoo group posted
some interesting pictures of an "unknown" in the vicinity of Altair.
It's sort
of reminiscent of a comet, but the tail's splay is unusual.
