What To Do If Your Contact Lenses Dont Feel Comfortable31 Jan 2008 00:58 GMT3
Many people give up wearing contact lenses because they can never get
used to them. The lenses just don't feel comfortable. If this is your

What do you do if you wear Glasses?30 Jan 2008 11:18 GMT11
I find I can either:

Orion EZ Finder Deluxe Reflex Sight29 Jan 2008 20:51 GMT3
Can this finder be used as a replacement for the red dot finder that comes
with Celestron's SE line of SCTs?  i.e., would one have to also replace the

Replacing focuser on Astro-Systems Dob. Advice requested.29 Jan 2008 15:44 GMT3
I have an Astro-Systems 16-inch Telekit Dob that has served me well for
several years. (Completed the Messier list last year.) However, I have
not been pleased with the focuser, which uses two elastic bands to
transmit motion to the eyepiece holder, and I am trying to replace it
Question about telescope design.29 Jan 2008 10:22 GMT51
Just wondering... If much of the input ends up digitised anyway, what
is the point of  dished telescopes?
Wouldn't it be enormously cheaper and simpler just to use a strip bent
into a parabolic shape (rather like a slice through a parabolic dish

Moderated sci.astro.amateur has lots of the solid and once contributing

ASTRO SAA: Aristarchus and the heliocentric hypothesis28 Jan 2008 18:40 GMT7
A while back, a very kind fellow ("very kind" because he said a number
of nice things about me, and I look warmly upon that <g>) posted a
question about Aristarchus and the motivation for his heliocentric
hypothesis.  He recalled reading that Aristarchus, having completed his

Making the lap telescope27 Jan 2008 14:56 GMT1
After chamfering the edges of the 4" mirror a couple days ago with my
hand sander, today I built a stand to do the grinding and polishing.
I had an old stool made from 2"X2" uprights with 2X4" side pieces and
top.  I cut some scrap 1/4" ply to form a bottom into which I can pile
