These magnificent, organized storms of destruction are sooo much like galaxy
morphology.

AP Drones....weird, dangerous and apparently...31 Aug 2005 16:41 GMT22
obsessive circle jerkers.  Somebody placed tests of a number of
refractors on the Yahoo Refracor Group which gave TEC high marks and
AP not so high, albeit, on what was described as a pre-production
model.  However, that was enough to set the "AP Mafia" into a rage,
Rod, hope you fair well with the Hurricane!31 Aug 2005 16:31 GMT22
Rod,
Best wishes to you & Miss Dorothy.
Hope that you fair well in the next few days.
Best to anyone here down that way..
The American economy31 Aug 2005 13:40 GMT22
If the American economy is so flat, (as Liberals jump to point out)
then how come wait times for scopes like AP which are luxury items
and a bell-weather of economic health are so long now?
In the 1990s, you could get an AP in about 2 years, now it's 5-8 years.
S&T Going to the Dogs31 Aug 2005 08:04 GMT5
Has anyone noticed the horrible new paper in the October issue of S&T?
Its overly slick glossiness totally lacks the charming, pulpy texture I
was used to from the preceding issue. Bah!

What did I just see ("line in the sky")30 Aug 2005 16:46 GMT7
It's about 9:30 p.m. local, and dark. We just got back from the cottage.
Unpacking, I looked up and saw what I thought at first was a faint jet
contrail, light by the sun that had gone below the horizon.
The line ran, as far as I can judge, from due south towards north, and
Grating Spectrometers for telescopes30 Aug 2005 08:35 GMT13
I recently found and then lost a URL to a grating spectrometer for
amateur astronometers.  It was modest priced in the $150 range.  Can
someone help me. Thanks in advance.
100 Billion Brown Dwarfs in the Galaxy30 Aug 2005 04:57 GMT3
After decades of searching, astronomers discovered the first definite brown
dwarf only ten years ago. Now, a new analysis of Hubble Space Telescope data
implies our Galaxy has almost as many of these failed stars as it does
normal stars like the Sun.
TeleVue Dioptrix30 Aug 2005 03:32 GMT1
Tele Vue has a new accessory
http://www.televue.com/engine/page.asp?ID=259
that fits over an eyepiece and corrects for astigmatism.  This costs
about $100. You have to order one with the correct diopter correction
Split ring mount29 Aug 2005 22:52 GMT4
I've been looking at equatorial mounts for large aperature telescopes
- especially newtonians - and it seems to me that the most stable are
split-ring mounts. But noone really makes them, so I have to wonder
about their usefulness. Are they stable enough for astrophotography?
Celestron vs. Lumicon Oxigen III filters29 Aug 2005 21:33 GMT4
I had great views tonight with the Lumicon O-III filter on Veil nebula
and others. Now I want to buy one.
Seems, the Lumicon O-III is twice the price of the Celestron O-III,
searching on the net.
Lens adapters29 Aug 2005 08:55 GMT1
I have a 360mm Mamya RB67 lens that I would like to use for CCD
imaging.  To do this I need an adaptor for a 1.25" nose piece.  Does
anyone know if such adaptors are available.
Barlowed F5 vs. F10 achromat29 Aug 2005 01:01 GMT6
Is the color error in a barlowed F5 crown/flint achromat (eff. F10) the same
as an actual F10 crown/flint doublet?
Trying to decide between an F5 achromat with 2x Binoviewer, or an F10 with
1x binoviewer (I will remove 5 inches from the tube).
