Atlas of Light Pollution vs. Experience31 Mar 2005 22:20 GMT14
I'm curious how people's observing experiences jibe
with their location in the World Atlas of Light
Pollution (http://www.lightpollution.it/dmsp).

Binocular viewers for telescopes31 Mar 2005 19:10 GMT15
I would be interested in knowing if binocular viewers are realy as
good as they made out to be.  I can understand that they may make
viewing more relaxing and maybe provide a 3-D effect for the moon and
planets but not surely for anything else.  Anybody out there using
Proof of Martian Civilization31 Mar 2005 18:51 GMT215
There have been observed a number of objects on Mars that can be, most
likely, atttributed to an ancient Civilization.
Those objects could not have been naturally formed, since they have
symmetry of equilateral triangular orthogonal prism. This symmetry is
Moon is as far south in sky as it ever gets31 Mar 2005 18:13 GMT7
2 weeks ago the first quarter Moon was nearly overhead
(as seen from the USA and similar northern latitudes).
Now it's at last quarter and thus should be as far south
in the sky as it ever gets in USA (and overhead in Australia).
Astronomical Calculations31 Mar 2005 08:18 GMT5
Dear group members,
A few questions:
1- I want to calculate positions of Saturn's large moons. Is there any
online resource explaining this?
Prism Light Speed31 Mar 2005 08:06 GMT20
In a prism, light is said to slow down. Why does it slow
down? Did it become like 0.8C or something?
Red is refracted less than violet. Refractive index is
said to increase as wavelength decreases. violet has

Quickly, Before Terry Schiavo Dies!31 Mar 2005 07:03 GMT38
Terry Schiavo, an innocent victim of fate, lies dying in a Florida
Hospice. She has done no wrong, created no legal problems for anyone,
and is an insignificant drain on the public purse. Medical experts
agree that she is in a persistent vegetative state and cannot recover

software to recognize constellations?31 Mar 2005 00:37 GMT4
Is there any software out there that can take an image of stars from
the sky as input and draw constellation markers and/or celestial
coordinates of the stars it recognizes?
Thanks,
Guiding and Magnification?30 Mar 2005 23:46 GMT12
Conventional wisdom once held that the guide 'scope should have a
greater magnification than the imaging 'scope/lens by a factor of
(something or other.) With the advent of cameras that contain both
imaging and guiding chips, or that image and guide using the same chip,
minimum magnification for Saturn's rings?30 Mar 2005 22:27 GMT16
I was out taking a quick look at Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon with Canon IS
18x50's last night. I couldn't quite make out the rings, just an elongated
blob. Under better seeing conditions, is 18x50 ever enough to to see the
rings? BTW, the Moon looked great in the 18x50s.

The NASA - ESA Cassini T4 flyby planning map shows his location on
Titan as a yellow dot.
