Question About Sports And Gravity20 Aug 2008 16:37 GMT5
-> So, with these thoughts in mind, I started wondering if the outcome of
-> some events might be affected by the moderate ebb and flow of
-> gravitational forces, such as are related to the Moon and perhaps (to
-> a lesser extent) the sun or even localized to certain parts of ...
The Fermi Paradox and SETI Success19 Aug 2008 16:12 GMT163
Fermi's paradox suggests that there are little or no other intelligent
civilizations within the Milky Way galaxy.  On the other hand, intelligent
life should exist on a substantial fraction of planets with life because
natural selection broadly increases intelligence with time.  ...

Solar Wind and Venus' Atmosphere17 Aug 2008 00:31 GMT4
I have seen several shows on the science channel (among others) that
have stated that the Earth's atmosphere would be eroded -- to the
extent seen on Mars -- if the Earth did not have a strong
magnetosphere.

Aerovator01 Nov 2006 19:50 GMT3
I read about this idea on wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aerovator.   Basically, it is a long
aerodynamic ribbon kept up by 20+ jet engines.  Somehow, this could be
used to get into space, but It doesn't sound very practical to me,

This  solid booster  vibration/resonance problem.05 Aug 2008 17:57 GMT4
May sound very silly, but I was wondering if this problem could be
mineralised by making several auxiliary  'vernier' nozzles on the side of
the solid segments, so the  vibration is  disrupted.

Purpose of manned exploration in space?25 Jul 2008 20:53 GMT2
Well, I think it should go on, but when you think about it in a rational
sense, what is the point of it? So we set up a colony on the moon and Mars.
OK, we have done it, what was the point exactly? The apparent eternal search
for another form of life is another thread ...

Imagine a hydrogen oxygen rocket engine with an exit nozzle diameter
of 17 meters in diameter, 36 meters long and produces a thrust of

Now imagine a three stage rocket built around this engine.
