I love that sound; it means a lot of things went right.

I loved the double boom on the audio. It was very loud against the  ambient
sound for once and you could clearly hear the sound rolling around as it
bounced off the  buildings.

Did you notice the silence before the double boom and the sound of the wind
noise (low continuous roar) of the Shuttle after the booms. NASA must have
bought a new microphone.

I too was impressed by the crisp loud booms, plus all the good bass coming
from my big speaker.....

The bounce off the VAB was great - we all about jumped out of our shoes and
we knew it was coming.

I always thought the "huffing and puffing" was ground scatter
and reflections of the radio waves that of course did not occur
when the shuttle was airborne.
Am I right?
If so, then the sound means safety back on ground.

The double shock sound (which is well understood) always
sends chills through me.

The sound is generated by the APU's. The infared videos show the APU exhaust
from the tail and it co-incides with the noises.

What's more, the huffing and puffing stops when they stop the APUs...

I love it when a small circle of comradely cognescenti
recognizes the same technological truths I do and get excited by
the same obscure details as I do -- well done, fellow space nuts!
