The Chinese are not sleeping and if we get too lazy, they may conquer
space first and in a few years, we'll have to learn Chinese!

We must conquer space first or our society is doomed !

We can get people to the Moon in five years,
not the fifteen GWB proposes.
Give NASA a real challenge

The Chinese won't "conquer space" by copying what the US and Russia did in
the early 60's.  They are doing nothing that's fundamentally different than
what the US and Russia have already done.  Furthermore, the US and Russia
have shown that following this path is not sustainable.

Launching expendable spacecraft on what ammounts to expendable missiles is
an economical dead end.  This is also true for the partially resuable space
shuttle model, which was long ago abandoned by Russia and the US is in the
process of abandoning.

Exactly why is society doomed if we don't conquer space?
