On KQV radio and website, running about 75% against it.

I seriously doubt it will become reality although I would love to see us return
to the moon!

Not even close to a scientific poll. The respondents all listen to the
same radio station, which makes it a biased sample.

it was also on their website. the numbers appear to matchmy random sampling
question of everyoner I know...

Do you support NASA scrapping other projects to focus its mission on returning
to the Moon?
Yes:    221....26%

Still not a scientific poll.

At best it indicates that Kerry feels that voters that might vote for him
(Democrats, more liberal Republicans, and others), don't feel that space is
all that important.  Perhaps Kerry has done some real scientific polling to
support this belief, perhaps not.

The wording of the question betrays that it's obviously not intended
to be an objective or meaningful poll.  How many and which projects are
being proposed for the scrap heap?  As worded, I would certainly
respond "No", because I don't think the unmanned planetary probes
should be scrapped, nor do I believe the moon should be the only
focus of NASA's mission.

How would the answers change if they worded the question "Do you support
NASA sending people to the moon as one part of a broad plan for increased
human spaceflight?"

But that isn't going to happen. Unmanned probes _are_ going to be
cancelled or curtailed. If the new manned program actually goes ahead it
will go over budget, and irreplaceable missions will be lost as happened
with Halley and the International Solar Polar Mission.
