Although it might not be self-evident, it is in fact entirely possible to
calculate the probability of detecting alien radio signals by understanding
what types of extraterrestrial radio emissions can be expected and what
properties these emissions can have. Using the Drake equation as the obvious
starting point, and logically identifying and enumerating constraints of
interstellar radio communications, may yield the possibility of detecting a
genuine alien radio signal.

One has to wonder if these people have legitimate degrees or simply make
unjustifiable assumptions to satisfy the publish or perish rule.

This is one of my favorite topics.
It should indeed be possible to say something about the probability of receiving ETI radio (or other EM) signals with some degree of
accuracy starting from the Drake equation.
I just wonder how many assumtions this guy made.
Did anyone read the article ?
If not (yet), then I will buy a copy.

Hey Rob, over in the SETI Society group at http://groups.google.com/group/setisociety
(and please feel free to join in the discussion) Marko has posted the
premises of his paper. He says that he's working on getting a free
version of his paper to appear in arxiv soon.
Keep searching, Jason H.
