-> Based on superficial analysis, these fossils are 650 million
-> to 200 million years old.

-> We are enchanted that the delicate Fauna fossil survived
-> glaciaction however it did, perhaps perchance being buried
-> while that occurred.

-> Now I do want to preserve the Fauna fossil, that is currently
-> on private property, (~500 acre's for sale, by a detached
-> owner), and the many others on that property, or I could
-> remove those fossils myself.
-> However, it would be somewhat inappropriate for a fella
-> like myself to hammer out 300,000,000 year old fossils.
-> If that must be done, then it should be done be experts.

-> To the untrained eye, these things look like rocks in the
-> way that will soon be bull-dozed, for a pre-fab cottage.

-> What do you think I should do?
-> Regards

Do you know the owner of the property? If so, you may be able to
persuade him to preserve the fossils until something else can be
arranged.

I'd suggest you contact a university, or maybe somewhere like Science
North, in Sudbury, and tell them about the situation. They may send
someone to evaluate the fossils, and maybe arrange for their proper
removal and preservation.

When I was in Egypt recently, I saw a fossil bed in the middle of the
Sahara Desert. It looked like a beach, with sea-shells resting on the
sand. Some 70 million years ago, that's probably exactly what it was.
But now the shells and the sand are concreted together. Without using
great force, there was no way to lift any of the shells.

We did some research and the fossils are located
on no ones property, so it's finders keepers.
Also, there is no people more qualified than ourselves
in ontario, so we'll do it.

You mean they're on "crown land", which belongs to the Queen, and is
administered by the government. Getting permission to do anything there
is likely to be a lot more difficult than doing so on private property.

What (if any) expertise do you have in fossils? And are you in Ontario?

Permanently?

Give me a call.

P.S. For anyone who is wondering. Ken and I are old friends. Some
years ago, he and his wife moved from Ontario to British Columbia. Now,
it seems, they're back.

-> Sure. You know how it goes, we (Lynne & I)
-> tour North America visiting scientific establishments
-> and geological sites. We've arranged lodging in
-> ontario, we have a permament pad there so it's
-> hard to know where live.

-> Lynne wants to do fossils as a tour theme,
-> sounds good to me and it would be definitely
-> excellent to arrange an expedition.
-> These fossil finds can only be accessed by boat,
-> so be prepared to swim and hike a bit.

It sounds like you're not in Ontario yet, but are planning a trip here.
Right?

-> Dave, I/we haven't figured out how to live
-> anywhere, we're a bit scattered.
-> Ken & Lynee.

I dunno. You put down roots at Bay Lake for something like 20 years.
Yes? That's long enough to be "living there".

Still give me a call...
