I hope no one minds the commercial, but I've recently placed a copy of
the 1722 first English edition of "Celestial Worlds Discover'd" by
Christian Huygens on eBay. It is item number 6957613677. I thought my
colleagues in the newsgroup may be interested.

That's a nice little item, it would look good on any bookshelf as they
say.

What do the five fold-out engraved plates show? Did he mention
flying saucers? What did he speculate about other worldly
inhabitants? You have me curious now.

Well, it would be a little surprising if Huygens had anything to say
about flying saucers. He does discuss the possibility of life on the
other planets and what it might be like.

The plates illustrate Saturn's orbit, the orbits of the other planets,
the appearance of the rings, etc.
