The countdown to DOUBLE FOR NOTHING in Dubya's illegal, immoral, and
unnecessary war

When Dubya ordered the US military to attack Iraq, there were a number of
things wrong with that picture.

First, the primary reason he gave of WMDs didn't make any sense. His reason
(which he has abandoned entirely) was that Iraq posed an imminent threat to
its neighbors and the US through its alledged possession and proclivity to
use WMDs. Those of us who oppose casual warfare wanted to know what the
hurry was, since the UN inspections were nearly finished and they hadn't
found any WMDs.

Dubya wanted his war in a big hurry... regardless of what the true
conditions were on the ground.

Second, he kept trying to tie Iraq in with the terrorists. In speech after
speech he pulled this bait and switch tactic, cleverly avoiding saying that
Saddam was behind 9/11 but confusing Iraq and al-Qaeda together in a way
that fooled many Americans into thinking that Iraq worked hand-in-hand with
al-Qaeda.

He was obfuscating and confusing the truth.

Third, military and intelligence officials were coming forth with probing
questions and criticism of the impending invasion. Some said it wasn't
necessary, others said we didn't have sufficient force to do the job, and
some said that there was no possible exit strategy and the US would be tied
down there for years.

Dubya turned a deaf ear to those experts.

Fourth, there was plenty of monkey business going on at the UN. Dubya
desperately wanted the legitimacy of a UN resolution for his plan to attack
Iraq. Dubya is no consensus builder, so it is clear that he wanted legal
authority which would end claims that he violated the UN charter by
attacking Iraq. Colin Powell's presentation of the Bush case was so
laughably devoid of factual evidence that Powell calls it "a blot on my
record".

Dubya wanted UN approval to stay within his legal boundaries.

Well, as it turns out, there were no WMDs nor were there any programs,
material, equipment, or staff to build them. And there is no hard evidence
contemporary to the attack that suggests that the US needed to be in any
hurry to make this attack. Also, it turns out that Iraq didn't have anything
to do with 9/11. The Bush Gang cleverly claimed that Iraq had contacts with
al-Qaeda that went back 10 years. True... but none since 10 years ago. And
these two entities were religiously and politically opposed to each other.

The military experts were ignored. An insufficient force was deployed that
allowed key munitions dumps to fall into the hands of the enemy. The UN
didn't come through with a resolution... and the rest is history.

Today marks the death of the 2000th soldier in Iraq. Instead of starting a
thread that counts to 3000, I am starting one that goes to 2749, then number
of people who lost their lives on 9/11.

This is because Dubya is going DOUBLE FOR NOTHING. He is going to match the
number of dead people that the terrorists killed for no reason with 2749
American GIs who will have lost their lives for nothing.

No WMDS. No threat to anyone. No links to al-Qaeda. No shining light of
democracy in the middle east.

No flowers thrown to GIs. No boon from Iraqi oil. No domino effect of other
nations in the region suddenly becoming "democracies".

No NOTHING. Nothing but 2749 dead soldiers put in harm's way by lies,
incompetence, greed, and an uncanny knack for creating a bizarre artificial
world to operate in. They match the 2749 killed by terrorists.

If you want to refer to Mr. Bush as a terrorist, I don't see anything
particularly wrong with that.

This is exactly how bad Dubya doesn't "get it":

The war on terror?

This is exactly the bait and switch tactic I told you about in the thread
starter. These people didn't die in the "war on terror". They died in
Dubya's War On Iraq, which should be subtitled "the war of political
desparation that never needed to be fought."

This is an INSULT to your intelligence, Americans. Are you going to sit
still while your president stands before you and lies to your face? He must
think you're pretty damn stupid.
