Note this page has a lot of images in it and is about 1.4 megabytes to

Russia to develop unique spaceships to exclude tile-chipping accidents
07/29/2005 10:57

Using new materials for heat insulation is one of the project's major
design achievements

A new Russian "hybrid" re-usable space vehicle will be built without
using tiles, the most vulnerable component of U.S. Space Shuttles,
according to a statement made by Vladimir Syromyatnikov, director
general of consortium Kosmicheskaya Regata (an affiliate of the Rocket
Space Corporation Energia.
According to Mr. Syromyatnikov, the Rocket Space Corporation Energia
develops a re-usable space vehicle of the so-called hybrid type. This is
an alternative project to the space vehicle Clipper. "The concept is
based on a combination of capsule space vehicles (Soyuz) and the winged
space vehicles (Buran), the project aims to ensure more safety for space
missions," said Mr. Syromyatnikov.
The new vehicle will fly as a capsule the longest part of the journey.
The lander's wings will be kept folded and protected by heat insulation.
The protective screen will be released during the reentry and the
vehicle will fold out the winds to land as an airplane.

Sounds logical.

It's gonna break up and burn during reentry just like the last one did.
It's time to bring out the alien technology and wow them all with the
new plasma ion power system and heat shields.

And look where they place it, towards the top of the rocket, minimum
falling debris problems for re-entry. I think they plan to have ejector
seats too in the test vehicle only though not in the end product.

You could get techincal and say, "Alaska, state bought cheaply from
Russia, former republic of the soviet union"

I really think it was won in a card game. One russian dude lost to
Seward on the island of Little Diomede Island, and got everything east
of that.  Strangly, The State of Texas named this game "Texas Holdem"
But it stated on Little Diomede Island in 1867. It should have been
called "Alaska Holdem" simply because it is so cold you gotta holdem
em!

The bird strike was quite a picture. Looks a bit like a bug hitting the
front of a car. Hmmmm ...
