soon, the orbiter will turn on its terrain mapper.  We will find out
if US actually landed on the moon.  The presence (or absence) of a
lander at the alleged landing area would be proof.

Mission Accomplished: India fifth in world to reach moon
15 Nov 2008, 0154 hrs IST, Srinivas Laxman, TNN

MUMBAI: The tricolour landed on the Moon at 8.31 pm on Friday, opening
a new chapter in the history of India’s space exploration. Up Close:
An image of the Moon's surface taken by the MIP as it approached the
lunar surface. Courtesy ISRO

Other entities which have reached the Moon are the US, former Soviet
Union, Japan (albeit via a malfunction that sent its orbiter crashing
onto the lunar surface) and the European Space Agency (17 nations).
India becomes the fifth member of this club.

The tricolour was painted on all sides of the 29 kg Moon Impact Probe
(MIP) which was attached to the top portion of the main lunar orbiter,
Chandrayaan. The MIP is the brainchild of former President A P J Abdul
Kalam who witnessed its separation from the main orbiting craft and
its crashlanding 32 km from the Shackleton crater on the moon’s south
pole from the mission control room at ISRO’s telemetry, tracking and
command network (ISTRAC) in Bangalore.

ISRO officials told TOI that the countdown for the MIP’s much-awaited
flight to the surface of the Moon began at 7.47 pm.

It went off smoothly and at 8.01 pm the command was issued for it to
separate from the orbiting spacecraft. The MIP began its flight
towards the Moon’s south pole and after a 25-minute flight,
crashlanded.

During its flight, its video camera took pictures of the Moon, the
spectrometer began its analysis and the altitude meter did what is
known as a ranging. While approaching the Moon, it slowed down
slightly, then spun. While spinning, its three instruments went into
action. When it was 5 km above the Moon’s surface, the altimeter did
the ‘ranging of the Moon’. ‘‘All this while the atmosphere was pretty
tense in the mission control room,’’ said a scientist.

Kalam’s rationale for including the MIP was that since Chandrayaan was
orbiting the Moon at an altitude of 100 km above the lunar surface, a
landing would make India’s presence felt on the Moon’s surface. He
believed that if this was done, India could always stake a claim to a
portion of the Moon.

Then there will be the hoaxters who will build up a case that the Indian
moon shot project is a fake, too.  They also had this hoax hoax go around
in China back 1/2-1 year ago when they did some big space project, too.

Are you thinking about their claimed microsatellite that was supposed to
have rendezvoused with another satellite a few years back?
A lot of people thought that was a hoax at the time.

Or, in other words, not only sell cheap currency and cheap flesh to the
first world, but sell cheap launch services to the first world. i.e. more
jobs _out_ of the first world and into third world.

Good deal for third world, bad deal for jobs in first world.

Every third world country, attempting to become something higher up the
food chain, organizes itself to do just two things: i) keep its currency
(and cost of local flesh) cheap, and ii) sell anything it can to anyone
and everyone in the first world.

They do this because they want the "fast track" trajectory to a higher
status instead of a slower growth by which they grow themselves up without
taking jobs away from first world countries, which is what is happening
now.

"Getting wealth off the planet"--your words--is actually by getting it
from where it already exists, the first world. And, in the process, its
already making banana republics out of the first world.

So they're going to ignore the UN resolution that stated that no
nation on Earth would claim or expolit resources from space?

And even if they did, "eventually," life is miserable in India NOW! (I
realize this is similar to the old argument; "There are people in the
ghetto, why are we going into space?" but we were trying to both help
the people in the ghetto, AND go to space. I don't see a lot of help
for the destitute in India while they're developing nuclear capability
and now venturing into space.)

There is no such UN resolution.  But if there were, yes, they should
ignore it.

Reducing India's space expenditures wouldn't make a small dent in the
problem of destitute Indian's.  But it would make a huge dent in
India's future capability to do something about it.

I'd have to 100% agree with that.  Our Selene/moon is strictly a first

in end of argument.

Once again, I'm 100% with your mindset.  However, why is our DARPA and
NASA moderating whatever ISRO has to offer about our Selene/moon?

To clarify, there is a UN treaty (Outer Space Treaty) that forbids
territorial claims in space, but that does *not* preclude mineral
rights. There is precedent for this in terrestrial law, and now there is
precedent in space law: no one has contested US claims of ownership of
the Apollo samples, or the USSR claim of ownership of the Luna samples.

The Moon Treaty would have pretty much killed mineral rights, but
fortunately was never ratified by the major space-faring nations.

These minerals and otherwise spendy elements such as He3 are for those
capable of going there and exporting such back to Earth.  India and
China should each have that right, even if it means WWIII.

Actually the Selene L1 (Earth-moon L1) is perhaps the most valuable
asset.

That's true, whereas at the daunting rate we're going, with soon to be

Say there, BDK.  Just wondering why your JAXA with their 12+ bit HDTV
can't manage to record any color/hue saturation, other than a pastel
Earth? (where the hell did their color/hue dynamic range go?)  Was
there too much sodium fogging up their lens?

This next one is for yourself and our resident Zionist/Nazi rabbis
Saul Levy, Art Deco, plus our very own wizard of Oz William Mook, and
otherwise for each of their vast company of brown-nosed minions and
silly clowns of their DARPA and NASA mainstream status quo cabal, or
bust.

This public archive of mostly Selene/moon images isn’t half bad,
though imagine how the f40 (395 meter focal length) of KECK could do
nearly 100 fold better, including via earthshine and green laser
illumination in addition to polarized optics, and then perhaps a whole
lot better yet from ISRO that’s sort of holding back their 10 m/pixel
TMC images.

Moon mineralogy: (kinda bluish saturated due to the degree of UV
secondary/recoil black-light affect), and otherwise soon enough a
whole lot better yet from those ISRO HySI color/hue composites of
their 64  (+/- 8 nm) color/hue bands..

This guy could certainly do a damn fine job of imaging our physically
dark but otherwise fully solar illuminated Selene/moon along with a
little old planet as reddish and relatively dim albedo as Mars
included within the same FOV.  Just think what Jupiter, Saturn and
especially if having Venus within the same FOV as Selene is going to
look like.

I think Brad and Wormy are kind of "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"
type of buds. Other than the jew hatin', they don't really like each
other..

I would donate to have a "Kooktardic Summit", where the top kooktards
are flown into, say London, (If they are allowed to travel) and sit them
all down at a huge table, give them topics and let the fun begin. I
wonder how long it would take for one of them to shank one of the
others? And how long it would be before one of them melts down to the
point he has to be carted off.

DVD sales could be big!!

In other words, you are not with anyone outside of our DARPA/NASA
cartel and cabal of brown-nosed clowns and minions, because you have
nothing to add or even to deductively contribute on behalf of this
topic.  Your ulterior motives and intentions are actually quite clear,
just like those of a certain Pope, those Zionists and the Third Reich
were quite unmistakably clear.

You never deductively question or disqualify the likes of rabbis Art

And you sir, have never seriously backed up a single claim you've made
with anything resembling a verifiable reference! You don't even
explain WHY the statements you make are significant to your
proposition that we never went to the moon and that the entire thing
was faked on a "guano island."

You read whatever makes you a happy camper, and then never stop to
think.

You put words and/or analogies into the mouths of others, and then
never stop to think.

Like a parrot, you seldom if ever contribute anything original, and
you have little if any deductive thinking capability, although I've
known a few actual parrots that could.

To the best of objective knowledge that we can all take to the bank,
we did go to the moon (at least A-13).  We simply did not walk on the
moon.

I notice that once again, nowhere in this post do you support a damn
thing you have to say with anything that can be verified. So you're
still batting .000 on credibility.

Someday when I'm seriously bored or getting paid for my efforts, I'll
post each and every keystroke and web link that I've ever visited, as
obviously of whatever I can find and deductively interpret, you can't.

"deductively interpret" as in "making it up as I go along."

As I've said, my opinions are that the public record is right, we went
to the moon several times and stopped because the public got bored.
You made some allusion to my believing in Santa Claus and the Tooth
Fairy because I believe the public record...this from the guy who
believes (without a damn bit of verifiable evidence) that we could
skim the toxic-acidic clouds of Venus in rigid airships borrowed from
the inhabitits (sp) already there!

You think that the moon is beautiful with all those craters on it?
Why is it all right for nature to bombard it continuously for no
reason at all, but not for us to mine it for resources to decrease
local entropy, and bring life and joy to it?

Do you think a strip mine and the Grand Canyon have the same level of
majesty and beauty?

No, not that it has any relevance.

We could use our best and most nasty of nuclear WMD in order to strip
mine our Selene/moon, that is unless there's some cosmic kind of
environmental impact policy that needs to be purchased, along with our
taking actions of preserving or restoring some other moon.

I'm not trying to say "if man does it, it's evil." I'm saying that
strip mining the Moon is not similar to it being riddled with craters.
