"Black Hole" Racial term

metspitzer - 11 Jul 2008 18:38 GMT Dallas County officials spar over 'black hole' comment
A special meeting about Dallas County traffic tickets turned tense and bizarre this afternoon.
County commissioners were discussing problems with the central collections office that is used to process traffic ticket payments and handle other paperwork normally done by the JP Courts.
Commissioner Kenneth Mayfield, who is white, said it seemed that central collections "has become a black hole" because paperwork reportedly has become lost in the office.
Commissioner John Wiley Price, who is black, interrupted him with a loud "Excuse me!" He then corrected his colleague, saying the office has become a "white hole."
That prompted Judge Thomas Jones, who is black, to demand an apology from Mayfield for his racially insensitive analogy.
Mayfield shot back that it was a figure of speech and a science term. A black hole, according to Webster's, is perhaps "the invisible remains of a collapsed star, with an intense gravitational field from which neither light nor matter can escape."
Other county officials quickly interceded to break it up and get the meeting back on track. TV news cameras were rolling, after all.

John Wiley Price needs a phone call from Neil deGrasse Tyson to explain to him how stupid he really is.
Here is the meeting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc1zGRUPztc
Here is an interview after the meeting where Price explains his "position"

Painius - 11 Jul 2008 20:13 GMT > Dallas County officials spar over 'black hole' comment > [quoted text clipped - 36 lines] > > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-akk3gog34 It appears that some dark skin is also very thin.
The Price/Jones response serves only to support, reinforce and prolong racial bigotry in the world.
"Black" is too general a term to get all bent outta shape about. And lest we forget, many people with dark skin actually find the term "black person" distasteful. They prefer other terms for the very reason that "black" so often refers to some bad, evil or unsavory thing...
* black Sunday * black as sin * black angel dark angel * black magic (dating back to ancient Egypt) * black hat * black cat crossing one's path * black witchcraft * black box * black project * black organization * black mirror * black upside-down triangle used by Nazis * the black hole of Calcutta * black--night--dangerous * black as a symbol of mourning and bereavement in Western cultures. (In parts of Africa and Asia, white is the color of mourning and is worn at funerals). * in English heraldry, black means darkness, doubt, ignorance and uncertainty. * black as the color worn by villains * the "blackhat" of computer security * black- used with any day, month or even season in which something tragic happened * The Black Death * black market * black comedy * blacklist/blacklisted * blackball * blackmail * black sheep (ne'erdowell of the family) * black mood (clinical depression) "dancing with the black dog" * a black mark against you * black-hearted * black propaganda
So the color black often symbolizes evil, ambiguity, secrecy and the **unknown**!
Black does, however, frequently denote less evil things...
* Black Watch of the British army * "kuro" (black) in Japan that indicates nobility, age and experience. White in Japan symbolizes youth, serfdom and naiveté. "black belt" of many martial arts * black robes for academic graduates * black tuxedos worn to "black tie" functions * black worn by... priests monks nuns Hassidic Jews some Muslim women lawyers judges performers of European classical music performers of serious art music * black symbolized "north" and "water" in ancient China * prestigious black limousines * the black, life-giving soil of Native Americans * black as symbol of life and prosperity in the Massai tribes of Kenya and Tanzania in Africa * "the black one" is the meaning of the Hindu deity, "Krishna's" name * Black Friday shopping that occurs right after Thanksgiving day in the US. This is statistically the largest shopping day of the year. The idea is that this shopping day can put companies "in the black" (they'll "turn a profit) for the year. "in the black" also means "free of debt" "black bottom line" also means a company is profiting * black is stylish, sexy, elegant and powerful in Western fashion * "the new black" is the latest wardrobe-basic fashion trend
* AND lest we forget, the "black hole" and the "black sky" of the science of astronomy.
Have i left anything out? <g>
happy days and... starry starry nights!

DR SMITH - 13 Jul 2008 04:59 GMT In the recent interview when Jesse Jackson expressed his desire to separate Obama from his nutz, Jesse referred to black people as "black people" and not African Americans. Does this mean that he should now "step down" from his position of....what ever he is in a position of?

Unless he's only being a whileball kind of guy, in which case he should be castrated in public, but only on white sunday.

What a boring world this would be if everyone was not only of the same color but of the same pretend-Atheism cult of born-again liars. However, perhaps there'd be fewer wars if we were all exact clones of one another, just the way those Zionist/Nazi folks are trying to make their New World Order as based upon their Old Testament that they'll never admit to ever having any connection with.

You're the one that can't accept the historical proven truths. So, perhaps you're most racist contributor with a bigoted minbset to boot, because you'll believe in and blindly follow whatever lie doesn't rock your section-8 boat (aka good ship LOLLIPOP).

oldcoot - 14 Jul 2008 21:10 GMT Several years ago a large controversity arose over use of the perfectly legitamate adjective "niggardly" (meaning stingy or miserly).
David Howard, a white aide to Anthony A. Williams, the black mayor of Washington, D.C., used the word in reference to a budget. This apparently upset one of his black colleagues (identified by Howard as Marshall Brown), who incorrectly interpreted it as a racial slur and lodged a complaint.
As a result, on January 25 Howard tendered his resignation, and mayor Williams, presumably literate and university-educated, accepted it.

I also recall a local radio lady talk show host berating a woman caller for daring to call Nancy Reagan a "thespian"!
