The WW2 was turning point in the history of politics. As president
Ryti had envisioned 1939 after war there had to be two superpowers USA
and USSR with their allies.
USSR had its troops in Berlin, Poland, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania
and Wien. Later Austria was neutralized and soviet troops retreated.
Finland was in the most forefront western country nearest to St
petresburg and Moscow.
Europian front was stable to 1968 when soviet troops occupied
Tchekoslovakia in Johnson era.
In America with 7000 km ocean USSR was able to occupy Cuba in 1957. It
must have been total fiasco of CIA and US intelligence. To capture
country in these circumstaces seems to be impossible.
1949 happened greates fiasco in US modern era when China was occupied
by soviets. It became to Trumans mistake. Truman had been also kept
actor of soviet victories in Europe.
1975 Soviets marched to Saigon and they captured Vietnam. Korea was
divided in Eisenhower era in 1955. 1979 soviets captured Afganistan
and Iran.
In Africa Ethiopia turned to soviets in 1977 and Angola and Mosambik
later.
All these must have been results of great mistakes of CIA and US army.
The marks of US victories happened in Israel. Soviet Union attacked a
ministate  from Egypt
Syria and Jordan. Israel won and laid a cornerstone for soviet
collapse. 1973 soviets mismanaged again in Jom Kippur war that led
Sadat to turn his back to soviets.
Today it seems to be miracle how Egypt could make these success in
those days.
Egypt has harvested money greatly from Sadats wit. That happened
during Carter.
Ronald Reagan became president in january 1981. 1982 soviets began to
be in retreat in Afganistan. 1985 Reagan met fearful Gorbatsov in
Geneve. 1987 in Reykjavik Gorbatsov collapsed before TV screens. 1988
Soviets retreated from Afganistan and it turned once again to US.
Economy of USSR was in ruins, pressure from within and outside grew.
American arms were much sophisticated than soviets first time after
WW2.
Eastern Europe form Berlin to Volga turned to US. Caucasus turned to
US and Central Asia turnd its back to soviets like Baltic states.
1994 after 15 years Ethiopia turned its back to soviets.
Whole North-Africa was becoming US sphere of influence.
In Iraq war the middle east and 70% of world oil reserves became
Israels and Us hands.
1989 in November was article in Der Spiegel "Ist DDR zu retten" now
many ask can China and Russia keep racist  forever.

No WWII was the final death throws of the West according to Niall
Ferguson's "The War of the World."

The decline of the West was ongoing through the 20th century.

I'm not entire sure he's right, but the main cause of the problems you
listed below was lack of LEADERSHIP!
